Discounted BMW cars - SG Airshow

I placed order for a X1 in Jan even before the SAS was publicised. My agent called me early so I have the privilege to choose the colour that I want. Some colours are selling like hotcakes and the promo sales seem very well received. I got $16k upfront discount and retail price was still $187,800 then. Well, maybe some said $16k is too little but in my opinion, $16k upfront discount for such cars is well worth it. Definitely better than demo cars. And PML gave me a good trade in for my 3 series and I actually got $1k more than the cost price for my 3 series that I bought brand new just 1.5 years ago. To sweeten up the deal, the COE is now above $70k and hence the retail price had been recently revised up to $194,800. In addition, upfront discount slashed from $16k to $10k and trade in gimmick also pressed down. So I think it's not just a matter of buy early or buy later, but rather buying at the right time depending on COE.

 

Virgin, non virgin? Run over hump? Sperm everywhere? Stone chips and dents everywhere? Stains everywhere? Fetch wife, children? Whack the car? etc... actually I don't really care lah. Warranty still count and if there's any defect within the 3 years, PML will repair and replace for you. You will still be considered as first owner. PML will also clean up, repair, respray, polish etc.. thoroughly and will let you collect your car as brand new as possible. You can inspect, smell, lick whatever you want to check on your car... and if you are not satisfied, they will redo until you are satisfied.

 

Engine are already factory run in nowadays. So in fact the harder you whack your car when new, the better will be. The beauty of bmws is their ECU is very intelligent and will adjust to the driver's driving style atomatically. In other words, if you whack the car hard, the ECU will auto store the settings and your car will be more responsive. In contrast, if you drive like an 'Ah Ma', then the ECU will auto store your driving patterns and then you will find the car very sluggish. That's why there is a saying, don't buy a bmw if you are not going to whack or floor it! BMW engines are meant to be stretched/abused and usually their engines can easily last 300,000km, 400,000km etc no problem. Thats why their tagline is 'The Ultimate Driving Machine'.

 

So do not need to doubt if such deal arises, be it BMW, Merc, Jaguar etc.... just grab it if you are comfortable! Although the car is so called 'used' or 'non virgin', but they guarantee to be below 3,000km. Anyway like what some had said, all cars are non virgin when you collect when new. Be it 5km, 10km, 100km or 3000km, so long the first driver whack (if you are worry) it doesn't really matter what's your mileage, it's still being whacked already. I ever saw 5 drivers driving 5 brand new Nissan Sunnys from Sembawang shipyard to the showroom. From the way they drive, I think that it could be worst than some who had driven it for 2000 or 3000km during the Airshow. They really floored the pedals whenever the cars moved off and they virtually 'drift' along the way. And I am talking about brand new Nissan who are supposedly 'virgins'... so you judge.

Wanted to seek your opinion on:

 

1. If the existing 5 series is to be offered, does it still make sense to buy it at a further say 3-5% show discount? Given that the current 5 is an end of life cycle model, would PML not offer another round (if not similar) of promotion just before the launch of the new 5?  Also, would end of life cycle batch of cars suffer greater depreciation?

 

2. For those who had bought event cars, any feedback on the quality of the car? Understand bro Snowmanyee had such experience.  What abt the rest?

Maybe u can do your homework first on what price are the cars now before the show n then see what they offer during the show. I would expect at least $10k off the normal prices n perhaps more if the new 5 series is coming anytime soon but if new 5 series only coming later like year end or 2017, then $10k off IMO is fair.

These BMW and VW owners will change cars.

At that time, there will be lots of BMW, VW, and Merc on the second hand market to slowly chose.

You could be right but 7 series buyers unlikely to bite these kind of discounts cos likely they to have deep pockets. My suspicion is lower end ones and only a handful of higher end ones.

It is a very lousy deal. Only 11k off the showroom model and they strip of the following:

 

1) multifunctional display

2) 18 to 17in rims

3) No intelligent LED lights.

 

These 3 items I would say at least worth 10 -20 k extra. So based on this spec difference, price should be at least 15k off for totally new model.

 

In this case, its like 2nd hand as driven before and charge more than brand new price!!!

 

Somemore, as 5s is EOL model, I feel that the current premium is already too much. Now the airshow model is premium on premium. Very ridiculous pricing by PML.

1) multifunctional display

2) 18 to 17in rims
