AFV_V200 3rd Gear February 14, 2012 Share February 14, 2012 Has been suffer from that for like 10 yrs. I had torn ligament and stop running since 2000. and slowly suffer low back pain/sciatica? Some suggest it could be due to the low back spine pressing against my nerves. I wonder what specialist shall I go to? A SGH specialist suggested me to either cycle or swim. I would like to go back to running but... due to the torn ligament. Sigh. Last but not least. torn ligament is on inner right knee and I am bow legged. Can tahan 10years....wow.....great endurance. Get the AIBI back stretcher......to reduce the spine pressure.....it will allow the disc to expand and get back to elasticity. Not much solution out there, but to self heal using mental power to spur the body to heal by itself. The flatten disc protruded out and pinch the nerves inside the spinal cord, leading to sciatica and nerve pain. Donut Supercharged February 14, 2012 Share February 14, 2012 have a friend who recently got slipped disc.... most painful moments for him, and he's a tough guy with history of marathons, cycling, trekking, sky divings. so after the slipped disc, he only stick to swimming and cycling, according to doctor's instructions. So swimming is the best option for you. on top of swimming, you can also do some back-focused gym regime, that will built up your back muscles. And take some yoga or pilates course to keep your spine flexible. forget about running and all those high impact sports. very hard to heal... almost impossible. but if you do the above, your spine can last a long time....... I think TS is talking about his hip area, not slipped disc or spine. There are a lot of factors affecting TS's issue. It could be his weight, his posture or maybe his knee like he mentioned. I know someone who is flat footed also has problems in one side of his hip joint. IMO is his posture which is affected, he's a tall and heavy, if the posture is not correct his weight is not distributed correctly on his joints thus the pain. Our core muscles (abs & back) support our upper body and helps our legs balance the whole body. Losing weight helps plus strengthening of the core muscle group will lessen the pain. What the specialist suggest is correct since jogging is out of the question to help loose weight. I suggest TS loose some weight if you are overweight and look to someone to make sure your overall posture is alright and see whether it helps. As for your knee there's nothing much can be done unless you do surgery to insert a rubber cushion as a replacement ligament. I used to train in X-country during my NS day. runs 3x a week with lousy shoe. I have lower back pain problem on and off ever since I injured my back muscles many years back. I realized sleeping on a firm mattress (not necessary need to be expensive) is almost a must. Spirited 1st Gear February 14, 2012 Share February 14, 2012 Why not try chiropractic? When there are mis-alignments in the spine, it can lead to disc problems and affect the nerves. I used to have back pain that comes on about twice a year. Each time progressively worse and last longer. I started this chiropractor which my cousin recommend. I feel so much better! Shor 1st Gear February 14, 2012 Share February 14, 2012 Oh talking about this Sciatica pain is normally on one leg. I suffered almost 6 years. Not healed at all. My symptom - Standing for too long , walking for around 2km , my left hip downwards will have a very Sharp pain, all the way down to the shin and foot. Sometimes bottom of my feet will get numb. The ONLY way outdoor is, I squad down, or sit down a little while and it goes away. My Treatment - Went for MRI, I forgotten what the result something like L4 and L5 slipped. So that thing always rubbed and touch the nerve causing the pain. - After MRI, took 2 x Pysio therapy packages. No improve and I opt out to continue the therapy, this time I took up Chiropractic therapy. Very expensive but hope that this work. After 12 courses of spinal manipulative therapy, again no improvement on the pain. - After the expensive treatment, I lose patient and this time I tried the TCM method. Accupunture, Tuina etc. It relieved a little only after the treatment but it comes back again. - So I try my best to DIY by searching infos in the internet. Before I sleep, I do a round of stretching, or while watching TV, stretch my left leg to aside until I feel the pain, leave it for 10 mins. Until my whole foot become numb. I did this continuously for 1 month, it really healed or must I say, I can walk more distance without the Sciatica nerve pain. - Currently, I stopped the stretching and it comes back again. I am also looking for advice right now regarding this pain. It's quite hard to heal unless you choose an Op. IMHO Has been suffer from that for like 10 yrs.
