SLSAMG88 1st Gear February 13, 2012 Share February 13, 2012 More interested in this http://www.synology.com/products/product.p...2j&lang=enu Does this allow me to record TV shows from my Mio and then allow me to watch it via "the cloud"? I'm travelling frequently nowadays, haven't watched a live soccer game in about three months now! Wasting my Mio subscription! I would like to be able to watch the games during my transits or when I'm sitting in the lounge. Suggestions, anyone?
Salmon 1st Gear February 13, 2012 Share February 13, 2012 Whatever NAS you plan to buy, do provision for backup. E.g. buy those with AT LEAST 2 bay harddisk (in this case, a basic mirroring backup, raid 1) In the event if your NAS harddisk crash, there is still a fall back on your valuable data. The best is 3 harddisks (raid 5). For more info on the useable storage space for the different backup, you can checkout this website http://www.ibeast.com/content/tools/RaidCalc/RaidCalc.asp

Bystander50 5th Gear February 13, 2012 Share February 13, 2012 Does this allow me to record TV shows from my Mio and then allow me to watch it via "the cloud"? I'm travelling frequently nowadays, haven't watched a live soccer game in about three months now! Wasting my Mio subscription! I would like to be able to watch the games during my transits or when I'm sitting in the lounge. Suggestions, anyone? Get those video streaming device. Own a Hava, but now the latest box is Vulkano. Don't ever get the Slingbox, they refused to acknowledge their hardware fault when a large number of boxes die suddenly. Go read the reviews in Amazon and you'll know. The cause is 2 capicators dying, causing the streaming to be intermitten and freezing. Anyway, for the Vulkano, all you need to do is to connect the box to the A/V out of your mio/starhub box, a lan cable to your switch, forwrd the port, install the apps on your pc or smartphone and you're done. Recording can be done on external harddisk or SD card and you can even change channel on the go. And this box is not illegal. It's known as Place-Shifting. Installing the apps in my pc or laptop, I can watch my Starhub channels in my room without getting a 2nd box from Starhub. The only drawback is if there are people watching in the living room and I change channel on my phone/laptop, they'll see the channel change as well. Been using it for the past 5 years, no complaints.

Jchuacl Clutched February 13, 2012 Share February 13, 2012 Home NAS can only withstand failure of 1 hard disk unlike Enterprise storage systems. Personally, I prefer RAID 1 as recovery is more straight forward. In fact, I also do a precautionary backup of the NAS on a separate portable disk on a regular basis as well. Whatever NAS you plan to buy, do provision for backup. E.g. buy those with AT LEAST 2 bay harddisk (in this case, a basic mirroring backup, raid 1) In the event if your NAS harddisk crash, there is still a fall back on your valuable data.
