does it matter? not that they are offering competative pricing or good make models..

Buying a Chinese built car today is like buying a Japanese built car half a century ago.

It will still work, but with today's high COE, it doesn't make sense for many people.

You mean half a century, not half a decade right ? Half a decade might apply more to Korean cars. The general standards is still lower for cars exported to Singapore, with the goal to reduce ARF costs. Wonder what is preventing BMW or VW from being exported from Malaysia or China. Both have assembly plants. Maybe the perceived prestige will be lost and therefore Singaporeans will not buy them ? But major markets in the world assemble their own cars. This is the current norm.

There were ADs that closed down during the 1990s too, during the COE hike. Some brands disappeared for 1-2 years then returned with a new AD.

"Century", honest mistake. :D

Take a look at some China car, you would think it's built in the 70s.

How come newspaper didnt report Geely close down in s'pore?! [:/] So now left only one china make chery?

Foton is still around, just passed the showroom at Toa Payoh recently.

Besides that, some others like Dongfeng and Hafei are still on the SGCarMart new car section, but no idea if they are still active.
