bottomline is...

do you guys really think Chia is the BEST person Temasek can find for Strategy Head??

He is an accountant who has led a wafer fab for the past 10 years with no (recent) experience managing sovereign funds. His past job involves leading Chartered semi to being sold to GF, and then he and the CEO "left" after huge problems in GF recently.

how much is chartered share price when it got sold to Global Foundries? I assumed it did run up quite a bit during the last days since someone is willing to buy.

I can't remember the exact amount. It was $1+, iirc it didn't go up much even when when the sale was announced. Chia even denied he knew of such a deal with ATIC when there were rumours going around. Few months later, he announced the deal. So was he lying when he denied the rumours to the SES?

Anyway, even at $1+, investors are not getting their money back 1:1 as in the earlier fund raising, the shares were diluted by 10. Another words assuming the list price was $1.20, you pay $1200 for 1 lot, but you only get 100 shares and not 1000. So u throw in $1200, but you only get $120.

My wife is also in TD.... as I said I don't want to repeat her stories but I think yours is very similar to what I hear.

There are worse ones....

I also thought Chartered should have done R&D in parallel. When Samsung joined the Alliance, they would always get their technology nodes up faster than Chartered because Samsung have their own R&D seperate from the Alliance.

Chia only wanted to rely on the "Alliance". That is the big mistake.

Yes, there are definitely many more stories that can be dug out.

Chrt did explore the 90 node in Fab 6, but it did not turn out well. And fab6 actually have both cu and al processes. The al process was only for motorola.

Coming back to the process strategy, from 90 to 40, seriously they should have acquired enough knowledge and experience to start their own process.

Maybe one reason why it didn't materialised. Fab7 fab ops and TD are always at loggerheads. The priority is always at manufacturing rather than R&D. TD engineers almost have to beg the manufacturing side to use the equipments for their developments and are always at the last of the queue.

more impt, imagine Temasek ending up the same way.... [sweatdrop]

People complain how much we are paying, I just complain who we are paying it to....

CHRT TD ppl are useless compare with TSMC be it past or present..

CHRT yield will never catch up with TSMC if they still take junk product from design house which TMSC don't even even want..
