BoneStock 5th Gear February 7, 2012 Share February 7, 2012 It's time to change tyres again. Saw the big "GT Radial" banner at the top of MCF's home page and click it out of curiosity. Seems like it has quite a good range of products. Did a search in MCF but there were not many threads on this brand. Anyway, I have been through 2 sets of Hankook - V8RS and K415. I am keen to try out a different brand this time. GT Radial's BAX2 and 228 seem not too bad, both have silica compound as well so should be quite grippy. BAX2 is MII and 228 MIC. Looking at the threads I am leaning more towards BAX2. Anyone used BAX2 before will appreciate any comments from you. My tyre size is 195 60/R15. Called up Frankie from Soh Bros but unfortunately he didnt have stock for Bax2. He only has 228 at the moment. Any bros have other tyre recommendation cheap and good in the region of 80+ ~ 90 per tyre please let me know. Thanks very much ↡ Advertisement

Is 195/65R15 stock size or up-sized? You may be aware that sometimes up-sized not good idea.

BoneStock 5th Gear February 7, 2012 Author Share February 7, 2012 stock is 185 65/15 but I find it too skinny. I have been using 195 60/15 for > 5 years and I prefer it over the stock size

I have been using 195 60/15 for > 5 years and I prefer it over the stock size On my previous car, I experienced wheel spins during acceleration on flat paved road 175/65R14. I overcame that with 165/70R14 (ideally 165/65R14). Some lighter cars better off with narrower tire on paved roads. Possible to travel more for the same distance with too wide a tyre size. Example: I did observed about 10% longer distance travelled if I do not slow down for going round bends along certain route.
BoneStock 5th Gear February 7, 2012 Author Share February 7, 2012 GT, me target is HPY in few months time........... HPY looks very nice and is UHP tyre. Too bad don't have the right size for my wheel. Me using aspect 60 usually limited to tyres made more for comfort than performance...

Mine current ride is sunny and some bros at nissan club upsized the tyres w/o probs so I followed suit Haven't looked back since Both Accent 1.5L and Myvi came with 175mm width tire. Both with wheel spin issue. 165mm width solved issue with Myvi when due for replacement.
Canisminor 1st Gear February 7, 2012 Share February 7, 2012 I had a rental car in NZ fitted with the BAX2 tyres and found them very very noisy. Gripwise, no complaints even driving through some snow/ icy roads.
