Fennmax Clutched February 4, 2012 Share February 4, 2012 Anyone tried diy using contact cleaner to clean O2sensor at the maf housing? Any tips or precaution. ↡ Advertisement
Kb27 Supersonic February 4, 2012 Share February 4, 2012 I used Amsoil Power Foam, although it states not to use on MAF. I just found it is able to clean through tough coatings which contact cleaner cannot removed. I guess the precaution is not to spray on the MAF when it is hot. Let it cool off first if necessary. Do not switch on ignition. Spraying into the housing may not be effective either. I would take out the MAF and spray directly on the film or wire. I think this leaves a protective coating which is supposed to prevent rust/grease... but what you need is something that doesn't leave any residue, otherwise, your MAF sensor will not be able to sense the oxygen properly especially if you keep applying the foam... That's true. After I used Amsoil Power Foam, I did go over with a no-residual contact cleaner. Thanks for the reminder.

Gasguzzler 1st Gear February 6, 2012 Share February 6, 2012 (edited) Hi Bro, What the purpose of cleaning the 02 sensor ? Mind to show the knowhow too. many thanks Actually, I don't quite understand what TS means by o2 sensor in the MAF housing. I'm just assuming it's the MAF that he is talking about. o2 sensor is normally located at the exhaust manifold area. I don't clean my o2 sensor, only the MAF sensor. Gasguzzler 1st Gear February 6, 2012 Share February 6, 2012 To clean the MAF sensor, simply unplug the electrical connector, remove the MAF sensor, spray it with a proper MAF sensor cleaner and reinstall it. I won't recommend CARB cleaner though I know many workshops use it (STP CARB cleaner). They don't sell CRC MAF cleaner in stores. You will have to order from the supplier. Steve111 Neutral Newbie February 14, 2012 Share February 14, 2012 To clean o2 sensor, Steps: Get under your car and remove the O2 sensor. If you are unsure how to do this, please see the Resources section. Check the O2 sensor for cut wires or other damage. If a visual inspection shows damage, then you will need to buy a new sensor. Place the O2 sensor into the canister. Pour in enough gasoline to cover the device. When done, close the lid so that the gasoline doesn't evaporate. Swirl the canister to agitate the gasoline. Doing so forces the gasoline into the O2 sensor and allows it to reach all the dirt and grime. Place the canister in a cool, dry place, and let it sit overnight. The next day, swirl the canister again to dislodge any dirt that has loosened in the sensor. Let sit another couple of hours. Put on a pair of rubber gloves and remove the O2 sensor from the canister. Use paper towels to dry off the device. Once dry, place the sensor back into the engine. Job done.
