Past 3 days we have fallen trees and floods

Torrential downpour topples trees & damages homes in Serangoon Gardens

A torrential downpour last Saturday (19 April) caused at least four trees to fall in the Serangoon Gardens area, damaging vehicles and the roofs of private homes.
The rain began around 3pm and swept across the island.

Shin Min Daily News received multiple reports of fallen trees near Block 310 Serangoon Avenue 2, outside Serangoon Garden Market and Food Centre, at Chartwell Drive Park, and along Colchester Grove.

Three of these locations are in close proximity.

When a reporter visited the scene, a large tree was found collapsed in the open-air car park outside the food centre, crushing the rear windshield of a blue car.
Nearby, heavy branches and foliage also crashed onto the roof of a private home, damaging the tiles and leaving a gaping hole.

Calls for more frequent tree maintenance after storm damage

The owner of the damaged car, 48-year-old Mr Liu, is a hawker at Serangoon Garden Food Centre.

He tolf Shin Min Daily News: “Someone informed me that a tree hit my car, and I was shocked.”

A reporter later observed the vehicle’s rear windshield covered with plastic sheeting and tape

Mr Liu expressed concern about the potentially high repair costs and said he was unsure if insurance would cover the damage.

Those PUB emergency services guys been activated quite often recently.....

PUB should compile what's the % of increase in last 5yrs. To see if any trend.

Was it due more development in certain area, so less soil to absorb water and more concrete run off.

Was it due to 计划赶不上变化?

Aka, plan cannot catch u actual development?

Imagine future with Long island, blocking water from sea is one, building up water within the mainland is other. Huge downpours will also cause sudden water build up .... Must be able to divert externally if water level in main island start to build up.

That’s what the marina barage was supposed to do. Pump down the levels in the reservoir so that the canals can discharge into it. But alas. If it’s working properly why still flood?

Maybe Barrage pump down not enough prior to downpour.

There are 4 different canal/river that flows into Barrage.

Only Rochor overflow.

The overflow section usually btw Sime Darby Centre and Farrer Road

Maybe barrage level same as many of the canals.

So it's like pouring  into a glass while person is drinking with a straw.... The glass will still overflow if the flow from the bottle is faster than the person can drink.

It's definitely the volume of water is more than the canals can handle at the upstream.

Like after popping the wedding champagne, the newly Weds will pour at the top glass......and  ... 🤣Usually top few levels overflows... Then the banquet manager must distribute the champagne evenly towards the bottom few levels.

They just need to build multistorey parking then won't have this problem.

If I have a few billions, probably will get the architect to build above ground than below it.

Excavation is way more expensive than building up. Basement should be for bomb shelter, essential storage etc.  Parking should be ground and 2nd level, then living space from level 3++ onwards....

With such design who will worry about flood.
