Expertz 1st Gear January 30, 2012 Author Share January 30, 2012 DSG?! buggy tech u wan ah? 13km/l city, over 16km/l highway, 160bhp, 0-100 in 8.3s other than hybrids whose batteries won't last in hot singapore, i doubt you can find a japanese or korean with those stats
Soran 1st Gear January 30, 2012 Share January 30, 2012 The first pic is from a Golf GTI or Jetta GLI (the red stitching gives it away) The second picture is from a Sirocco R. Only the Roc has that triangular door handle, and the blue dials and gear knob give it away as an R model. Sadly i have to agree that the new Jetta is abit of a letdown. It is missing alot of accessories that the previous MK5 (mine) had, like underseat drawers, the button for traction control on/off, compact hydraulic hinges for the boot, the hinged hatch on the centre rear seat to access the boot (The new Jetta's hatch has no hinge, so it comes off in ur hands...diaoz)

Talking about stats, you will find some conti cars going into the workshop more often than your normal Jap cars.

Ladykillerz 4th Gear January 30, 2012 Share January 30, 2012 I think some of the people here heard too many misleading stories like VW are precieve as cheap cars in Germany or Europe, or else where. Obviously VW isn't the same class as the BMW, or Merc, but even in its home country, they are still very well respected cars, & command with very good resell value. It is not unusual to have VW cars premium in price over the big 3 German Marques entry/mid level cars, if properly equip (tick alot of options). Opel, now that is a more economy class German car. i got to agree with you again. we can't compare VW with higher brands like Merc or BMW but if we are comparing with Jap brand like Honda. let's make an example, Jetta 1.4 TSI (A): S$115,800 Jetta 1.4 TSI Sport: S$132,300 Civic 1.6 (A): S$106,900 Civic 2.0 (A): S$129,900 Difference (lowest spec.): S$8,900 Difference (highest spec.): S$2,400 Let's skip the cheap roadtax, fast performance, better handling, etc. from the Jetta. Then again, both interior are not as great. If you are a car buyer, which one will you buy?
Expertz 1st Gear January 30, 2012 Author Share January 30, 2012 pictures don't do justice, the low quality parts are not seen but felt the civic has got an interior that you'll have to be really picky to find things to complain about btw the jetta has a very rough interior roof texture, you will bleed if you ran your hand hard and fast on the surface but the civic's is soft and has a higher quality feel the civic after 5 or 6 years will still look new but the jetta will be a horrible place to be in. i'm not just complaining about the jetta, the scirocco and golf don't have interiors better than the dirt cheap kia koup. Sunshinez Neutral Newbie January 30, 2012 Share January 30, 2012 I would agree that VW does not have the interior of Conti cars as most Conti cars are considered premium brands in SG.. To me VW is still considered a mass market conti car... I would rather compare Jetta with a Altis, Civic, Slyphy, Lancer than Accords, Camry, Teena... Passat should be used to compare in this category... Personally Korean Cars have very Nice interior comparing to Jetta or Civics.. maybe good for very basic driving... But i doubt it gives the pleasure of driving a Civic or a Jetta... can't comment much tho cos i haven drive korean cars in the long run before... Juz my 2 cents worth.. Vega Turbocharged January 30, 2012 Share January 30, 2012 My friend's mk5 GTi interior plastic falling apart after 3+ yrs. It just can't take the hot weather here. All the 4 front aircon levers that contol the air flow broke which he has not touch for quite awhile. As for the new mk6 jetta being less premium in quality as compared to mk5 is becos the mk5 is more expensive to build and VW is claiming it is not profitable as it should be. Therefore, some of the features are taken out from the mk5 and probably replace with cheaper materials too.

Passion 5th Gear January 30, 2012 Share January 30, 2012 From the look of the Jetta vs Civic. Civic steering looks more classy than Jetta. Jetta apparently looks more plastiky and rubbery for the steering wheel. Also, the aircon vent looks like those GLX and hazard light looks worse than Toyota's Vios. Didn't see the rest, but the only nice thing is the gear shift, wrap in leather for the cover compare to Civic, a metal sticking out.
