my cousin has a shop selling road bikes, he started few years ago prices ranged from 5k to 8k.... last year checked his shop again: up to maybe 20k now :o:o that's a lot of money for a bicycle

i am using a cheapo $89 bike and when I added extra front/rear wheel guards, it cost me extra more than 50% of the original price [:(][mad]

I bought my classic road bike a few years back, in unroadworthy condition for $200/- then. Replaced wheelsets c/w cassette, tire, tubes, brake shoes, STI, bar tape, blinkers, lights, over the years (less than $1K). Still cheaper than to buy new one from the shop. Aluminium frame can be cheaper than steel/carbon fibre frames. Ever read of $30k bike? [:p]

Actually, road bike wheel may be more ex than the frame.

I m looking for space to store a road bike. Once found, i will look for italian steel bike + Campag Athena Gruppo.

I only got space to store 1 road bike, and 1 spare wheelset (used for competition). My a classic steel frame PEUGEOT at 9kg.

Bought mine from vendor who said: got it from company lucky draw but does not cycle. He kept it until unroadworthy and I bought it from him. [laugh]. There was someone selling a steel frame for $80/- If you customise with it, may cost a few hundreds more. Cheap for within $2k budget.
