Jchuacl Clutched January 24, 2012 Share January 24, 2012 Mileage and years are part of the guidelines that can be seen, the number of heat cycles that the tyres goes through is an unseen important factor as well. Normally, it can be felt through a sudden drop of wet grip during braking or hard acceleration. 44k mm, time to change tyres Liao lah!!! How much longer u plan to keep using this current set? Don't save on this kind of $$z Just like another MCFer said, the rule is 40k KM or 3 years. For me it's 40k KM or 2 years. My current tyres are already 34K KM and I'm already considering changing them. Because by the time I actually change, it will hit 35 to 37K KM. Another thing, it is not just the wear out rate of the tyre. Some tyres are NOT worn out yet, but they already been hardened over time, even though the wear rate is still good. So that means the rubber hardens and it will affect the grip. If u don't trust the WS, then u got to have your own rules to follow. 40k KM or 2 years. Don't stinge on tyres...... ↡ Advertisement

Kiadaw 6th Gear January 25, 2012 Share January 25, 2012 (edited) ANy brands to intro for performance tyres? I m on 17inch rims... nw is using Federal 245/45/17 i think... roughly wats the pricing and where to get them cheapest? Many thks I used to have the Goodyear Asymmetric F1 (note the F1) Summer tires (Classified as Max performance tires), I think they have a new version, call Asymmetric 2. Goodyear Asymmetric 2 Summer Its not too expensive (relatively speaking), & give optimum balance of thread wear, wet grip, & dry performance. I spend a great amount of time doing research, & I think its amount the best for street used. I used to drive with RE-010R, which is a grade higher (Extreme Summer tires), but like the other tires of this class, the thread wear is bad, & the wet traction isn't as good, due to less grove for rain to escape. I have another full sets of tires in my basement, (to be change) but I do not even know what tires are these. But its lame 16" on steel wheels, & I intended to change a fresh sets of 18" with a nice sets of wheels (rims) in March or April. I will probably get the same grad as the F1, but Continental brand. Damn, I did a check & there are so many version of Contispotcontact! Edited January 25, 2012 by Kiadaw
Achee 4th Gear January 25, 2012 Share January 25, 2012 The higher number signifies a newer version of the Continental tyre. For example CSC5 is newer version of CSC3 which is in turn newer than CSC2. CSC is a performance tyre whilst CPC is their comfort range. I have used both CSC2 and CSC3 and am extremely satisfied with the wet and dry performance. IMHO the tyre has low noise level, which is one of my predominant considerations when choosing a tyre.

Jchuacl Clutched January 26, 2012 Share January 26, 2012 RE-01R needs to be warmed up for extended period before you reach the optimal operating temperature, that's why pple experience poor grip experience in the wet for RE-01R. Even when the tyre is almost bald, it's still better than tyres of other classes. Alechi 2nd Gear June 30, 2013 Share June 30, 2013 Don't be misled. These countries work differently. Car drivers use mainly highway and most importantly, they change to winter tyres during winter season. So effective on the road time of their normal summer tyres are reduced. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/tec....jsp?techid=138 This site says the US and British recommends tyres be changed after six years, amd Japan recommends 5 years, even though the tyres should be able to last up to ten years with current material engineering. This is on the basis that the treads are still fine based on the tread wear check on the tyres. Yes, safety is important, but sometimes i think we tend to go a bit too safe. But hey, to each their own. ↡ Advertisement
