Dear All,

Currently driving a 2007 Rex, thinking of changing to a 2nd hand C-Class as my wife will be picking up her license soon.

My budget is around 80k +- and i zoom down to the year 2007 C-class.

Check that there are a few models in my range, but i can't really find much information discerning them apart. Hope the expert here can give me some enlightenment on the various model.

C180K Coupe

C180ML

C200ML (abit of a stretch for me)

For the 3 models, which is the better variant based on engine and specs and leaving the shapes aside. I am able to accept both the coupe and normal sedan chasis.

Do the K in the C180k coupe mean anything compare to the ML for the C180 ML?

Thanks a lot for the kind help

May consider 320 also but generally seems to align more with Merc.

Perhaps u can post ur questions at www.sgmerc.com

K here means kompressor which is supercharger in merc's case though they recently started using turbo branded as cgi. The coupe c180k ia actually branded as CLC rather than c class which is saloon based.

The variant u listed is W203 while tye coupe is CL203 and here's a topic that was discussed in sgmerc forum.

Hi bro,

So for the C180 ML, does that mean that there is no supercharger at play? Pure NA engine?

Thanks for your recommendation, will check out that forum!

It's much slower as compared to a rex. You already use to a certain level of speed. Hard to go back to a 'slower' car.

haha that is true, in order to get cars which is similar to Rex in performance in the continental car category, will be too expensive for me to consider anyway hehe

so got to compromise haha got to slow down the driving pace.

Well, at least get something in the 200 bhp range. I have drivin the older c180. Very comfy but it's just not engaging to drive.. Really a diff experience to the Rex.

C180 coupe = C180ML sedan other than 2 door or 4 door. Same chassis code W203 but in 2008, C-Class got new model which is code W204 while CLC is still on W203 chassis although the face look like W204.

C200ML is using same C180ML engine but with a higher level of tuning 184bhp (which is the same as E200 in 2007 W211)

So I guess C180ML will be a better buy if price is same as coupe because Sedan OMV should be higher.

My advise is to forget the W203 and better to pay abit more and get the 2007 W204 instead. The W204 is a big leap forward in every aspect.

If budget die-die 80k, think the 320 is a better bet.

bro thanks for advice

for the new W204 model can i check it will be those C class with the K "suffix", visually the changes is to the headlights and grill ?

I noticed the end (w204) 2007 C200 K (90kish) is much cheaper than 2008 C180K. (100kish)

In this essence should go for the C200k 2007?

I appended 2 link for confirmation i am referring to the right W204 models

http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...898&DL=1009 => C200k 2007 model (is this already on the w204?)

vs

http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...013&DL=1400 => c180k 2008 model

For 320i i think is within my budget also but i read there are some 320i which are uprated and some which are lower in HP. Anyway to tell them apart?

Both are same car (W204), same engine, supercharged.

Differences are C200 has higher hp and comes with full electric memory seat while the C180 is a semi-auto seat without memory.

The C180 is more than adequate for a casual easy drive, however if you like to cheong type, then a C200 is better. Btw, that C180 in the link looks like it has AMG rims while the C200 has the stock rims, AMG is nicer and cost more.

If you are not in a hurry to buy, come to Sgmerc meetup on the last Sunday of Feb and you can see first hand the various model and get your answers from the horse mouth.

Bro one guy replied u liao on tha NA question. Both your links are for the w204 model.

The c180 has aftermarket rim n can't tell if really AMG or not but it doesn't have the full AMG package which would include sport seats, alu gear knob, AMG bodykit and lower by 0.75" height.

However but rides can still bring lotsa smile to owner as IMHO it's very well put together, 1.8L road tax, factory leather seats etc.

The current w204 I believe I read the balance of the car has improved alot, BMW fame 3er is 50-50 distribution while the w204 is 54-46 iirc.

Between a 320 and c180/200 I would go for Merc too, roadtax is lower and power the same or higher except that bimmer handles better but in daily commute would that be noticeable?

Only thing to note is servicing cost but there are other workshop also specialize in Merc so there are still choices la. Happy car hunting.
