Kindly check your vehicle battery prior to CNY

Hi All,

 

Pls check your battery condition prior to CNY. It is no fun to be stuck during CNY period where u are going to visit relatives and friends. Also for those who are very good in "calculation", it does not make sense for you to call for roadside assistance if you breakdown in the middle of nowhere, you will be charge higher on outside service on the battery replacement and if you are savvy enough, should you call for roadside assistance in 1st 2 days of CNY, you have to give an red packet as token of appreciation.

 

You have till this weekend to check and have your battery replace. Good Luck and Happy and Prosperous Lunar Dragon New Year to All of You!!!!!

Yes folks please do the necessary checks and also avoid switching on the hazard lights too long when your car engine is switched off. I myself was hit with a flat battery on 1st day of New Year back in 2008. really

basic things monitor for tell tale signs e.g. if dashboard lights dim and flicker slightly when compressor kicks in and/or it takes longer to crank up engine than usual. If you have a conventional wet cell battery (that needs topup), you can try to peek at the electrodes when engine is cut by removing the knobs (where you are supposed to top up battery water). If your electrodes are badly deposited i.e sulphated, this may indictate the battery may be on its end since sulphation is a top killer of battery. Advise you to check voltage. I doubt most people have a digital voltmeter but it would be good to check the voltage while the engine is idling by visiting a workshop.

How much is a digital volt meter to check battery voltage? Maybe its good to have more, if it is not too expensive to buy?

can find at Mustafa but i cannot recall the price offhand now.

I used to go Hankook Toh Guan they have a battery tester. Finally when it's very very low, changed my battery there.

My 12V battery will be 4 yrs in another 2 months time.

 

I think all batterymen will ask me to replace.

 

It's time to use my battery load tester. Still resting in storeroom.

I used to went there to check too. But the gentleman that serve me was very professional, he just said my battery is good, no need to change.

Automotive lead acid batteries are normally check by using a high discharge tester or a specific gravity hydrometer.Checking with a voltmeter without loading the vehicle battery will only show the charge status. The battery may show 12.6volt but may not have the capacity to crank the engine .Cranking need very high instant amperage.

I am sure there are aftermarket "Ignition off / light on" reminder alarms available locally, install one of these and you will have less headache. Regular checking the battery charge status and doing preventive works will definitely helps a long way to prolong yr battery life and in turns you will have no more headache.

If your car battery already 1 year plus, maybe can consider to change even the battery still seems to work well. Cause i find car battery nowadays only last between 1 to around 2 years.
