Jammo89 Neutral Newbie January 16, 2012 Share January 16, 2012 I've recently bought this ride from a used car dealer. Everything was fine, except for this intermittent problem, The car would ride fine most of the time. Accelerating and braking wouldn't give me much issues.. This intermittent problem would hit me usually when crusing at 80 - 90 km/h. The car would suddenly have this loud shuddering noise, the whole car would vibrate, and when i accelerate, i can't gain much speed, its like the car is braking itself. When I let go off the accelerator pedal, the speed would reduce drastically. On highways, this is a total nightmare. I'm at a loss, as when I bring it into workshops. The problem doesn't replicate itself. Its really intermittent, can happen any point of the day, during initial cold start, after driving for a while, ANYTIME! After i drive slow for about 2 - 5 minutes, it would go away itself... I'm suspecting a dirty ABS wheel sensor, reading that the wheel's speed is different, decides to brake itself.. Is that possible? But no ABS lights up when it happens.. No warning lights at all.. I'm writing in to the forum in hope that someone has experienced this problem and can advise.... Other then the above problem, sometimes when i step on brake, i have the pulsating feeling on brake paddel. Might have a warped rotor? But this too comes and goes.. Please help! ↡ Advertisement
Jammo89 Neutral Newbie January 16, 2012 Author Share January 16, 2012 I've got no engine lights on, no abs lights on. Did a scan, no error codes. I've recorded a video of how serious it is, do take a look. Towards the end of the video, the problem just dissappears itself.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5R2L5LxxwI...eature=youtu.be
Yewheng Twincharged January 16, 2012 Share January 16, 2012 I notice there is a gadge on the dashboard, try removing that and see whether the problem persist? Bascially make the car as stock as possible and see whether the problem solve. Maybe it is those little gadgets that is added in the car that causes the problem? 5936 1st Gear January 16, 2012 Share January 16, 2012 Sorry to ask if ATF/CTV fluid is sufficient? You could bring it to grearbox workshop for their 2nd opinion. But do it after CNY.

Jammo89 Neutral Newbie February 26, 2012 Author Share February 26, 2012 after servicing caliper.. I've still got the jammed brake issue... Decided to go with the recommanded mechanic, ah meng. Explained to him my situation. He suspected its the ABS pump ($3k+ brand new!!!) He tried to source for old 2nd hands one, couldn't get any.. So he removed the fuse for my ABS, no big deal, its just driving without ABS. Drove off.. less then 10 mins later, the sticky caliper problem again came back. Quickly drove back to him, here's exactly how he tested the problem: 1) He shifted to "D" 2) Shifted to "N" 3) Car rolled for maybe half a meter, then stopped 4) He say don't need test liao, its the brakes jammed. He jacked up the car, shifted to "N", manually used hand to turn the wheel. It was v difficult to turn the wheel.. He then slowly released hose by hose, to isolate the problem. End up, he found out that the brake fluids, after being compressed, cannot be released backwards into the Brake Master Cylinder. He concluded the problem is with Master Brake Cylinder. Took out the entire Master Brake Cylinder, washed, checked for any broken parts/seal. Advised its better to change a new one, but then he wanted to try fixing it back first, cause our brakes can be adjusted (No idea what he meant by that) End of the day, he fixed it back, When reversing out of the workshop, the difference can be felt immediately. Bros who drive the 2.4, when you step on the accelerator lightly from a complete stop, our car would surge greatly, like, erm.. over powered, something like that. Haven't felt that since this brake problem started. Anyway.. Reversed out, when tapping on accelerator, again got that sudden acceleration surge. SHIOK! I know everything was fixed liao! Anyway.. damage was $120. Since fixing it this morning at around 11+, problem hasn't occured. I'm getting my back to normal acceleration.. So happy... I tell you, this has been a wild goose chase.. I've changed: Wheel Bearings Brake Rotors + Brake Pads Bled brake fluid. Serviced brake caliper (Change seal & Wash) Changed to stainless steel hose. Almost everything done, still cannot solve! One morning spent with Ah Meng, all resolved! Anyway, still got to monitor, Ah Meng said the problem probably won't come back, but keeping my fingers crossed. If it does come back, will go with Master Cylinder Replacement straight away! Kudos to Ah Meng! Btw, I've visited around 4 workshops, none of them could find the problem..! The only downside i guess, was Ah Meng's helper wasn't around, so i helped him press & depress brake padel every now and then. Am just glad this saga is over.. finally........... I'm hoping no bros will have to go through what i've went through.. The initially problem you'll face is the speed reduction when you just cruise, you have to step on the accelerator padel real hard to maintain 80 km/h! Then if you keep letting it go on, your brake rotors will warp, cause of constant grinding & heat produced.
