Stiener 1st Gear January 14, 2012 Share January 14, 2012 pay thousands for scholars to come out with this crap idea.... pay millions for a minister to approve this stupid scheme..... If you can come out with a feasible plan that works. I'm sure you will be reward handsomely. Stiener 1st Gear January 14, 2012 Share January 14, 2012 if i ask SBS to increase frequency, will they do it? increased frequency= more buses at a certain time. drive slow aslo doesnt matter. Try asking. But LTA monitors in minutes and seconds. Don't expect a bus (every service no.) every 5 min. There is always a threshold timing. If it exceeds, LTA will get bus operator to work on it until there is improvement. It is not easy to recruit bus drivers. If you have friends or relatives working as one. Ask them why so difficult to employ drivers.

KARTer 2nd Gear January 14, 2012 Share January 14, 2012 I agree that it takes 2 hands to clap. I am not siding anyone but since so many ppl here are against this solution which created some other problems. As a driver myself, I also have a fair share of problems with reckless or careless bus drivers. However, we should also look at this from their side. If you are involved with any org that receives feedback about long bus waiting time. You will see the 2 sides of the story. Not only passengers on the bus complaint that they are running late. Passengers waiting for a long time also complaint. In the eyes of ppl who complaint, many would want the authorities to place their interest on a higher priority rather than meeting somewhere in between. Sometimes I wonder why ppl are less likely to be critical over their statements when writing in complaints. I too file complaints at times but will add on with realistic suggestions taking into consideration the interest of everyone when drafting the proposed plan. Talk is always free. Spend time to help the authorities gets things moving a whole lot faster. thats why give n take on both sides may work or at least worth a try:- bus driver let a few cars pass before re-entering the main road from the bus bay, likewise other drivers stop to let bus enter when bus has waited and lend a few cars pass. When this becomes the norm, both sides will not be frustrated. Much of the road users' frustration come from both parties insisting on his own right of way when there's actually a grey area. Lammy84 Neutral Newbie January 14, 2012 Share January 14, 2012 when traffic is slow or there's a jam, everyone should accept some slowing down in their journey, including buses. The buses shouldn't expect everyone to stop, ebrake for them...... a fairer rule will be the bus shouldnt immediate dash out as and when the driver feels like, the bus driver should wait for a few cars to pass and then move out... this takes two-hands-to-clap, ie the other drivers should also give way when they see the bus has already waited and let a few cars pass.... There are a few problems with this expectation. The economics free rider theory. Every car will end up thinking. "just let me pass, the car behind will stop. Im only the 2nd, third, forth car that manage to drive by etc etc" With typical Singaporean driver's social graces unless its high handed it will NEVER work. If it had worked, the typical yellow box should have worked long ago and this scheme would not have to be implemented. Buses and typically public transport of any kind as viewed as more efficient, from an environmental and economical view point. A high percentage of the cars are driving around with only the driver and this is extremely wasteful. Its just that the routes that our @#$@#$@ buses take are pathetic. In HK, i never ever had a problem taking buses. I regularly take the bus from ST to the airport and the route the bus take makes sense, not having to route here there everywhere in a big circle to get to your destination just to maximise profits for the company. Infact in HK, private transport feels like a luxury and not a need. Whereas in SG private transport always feels like a need to me, I can never stand the public transport. If i take a bus from my place to airport (non existant now) it takes at least 70 minutes compared to 40 minutes from ST to airport even though the distance is greater from ST to the airport... Vhtfhwlego Supercharged January 19, 2012 Share January 19, 2012 Last year or the year before, because of this bus lane, radx porker being aj. Biker lose tooth or something like that... If that MIW own relative or themselves kanna this direct hit, I think they will remove the system. I also drive like you BUT, I am must worst then you. I outsmart the driver (bad thing to do) but these are somethings that people will do against the policies maker (I got guts to admit in this forum, come keyboard warriors, let's roll!) Now, if heavy/moderate traffic, got bus behind me, I will stop before the bus lane blocking the bus to enter the bay... I Only move off after the whole of the yellow box is clear which is around maybe 20metre. Yes, I did cause a jam but as a safety measure, this is to protect myself n others about the known danger of such bus bay... Some bus drivers are really to be shot. I understand hard to earn a living but if that one had choose that job, accept it. Today, 2 lane road, bus stop on one lane, 2 buses at bus stop (block off 1 lane)... The bus from the rear moved out from the bus stop (filter right) but as the turning radius too small, his actions jammed out the whole road. He can only move off after the first bus moved.. 2 bus from the same company need to rush mei??? Also miss judge the turniv radius
