a kid who are rebellion can take it one lah, yes they probably become more rebellion and get themselve into trouble is the school just ignore them or let their mum shouting at the school....

sure, it hurt their little crystal heart [rolleyes][rolleyes]

when we make laws, we dont abandon the weak, illiterate and poor to the forces of the market. We dont say, it's their problem.

We have pedagogical studies and educational development simply because the methods of yesterday have become irrelevant in the context of today.

Maybe its the form of teaching, maybe its the sort of children.

The army has realised this by toning down all the shouting and so has the education board banning things like throwing dusters at kids.

Why? For the sake of professionalism and a better system on the whole. The best way to teach is hardly ever to get someone shouting down your ear all the time but to explain to you why. For most of us here we never got that chance

a bit of conflict on your own statement...

you ask for counselling session with the kid, yet you also think they won't listen and discipline come from home.

There are many who will listen. Like i explained, many of these kids arent bad. They just dont know better. 14? Still a si ginna pi. Maybe they can tell that murder is wrong or stealing is wrong but you want to put them through higher level considerations?

You need someone to explain slowly without being judgemental, why they cant do this and why society frowns upon it. then finally what are the consequences.

I do agree with some of your 'soft' approach, i do not necessary agree with "nobody touch my kids except me!" -_-

i have classmate/friend who is a student aid in one of the baddest rich boy schools in town, and also people doing counseling at school, chances is the kids attend the the whole counseling sessions without saying a word...

other case i can empathize but not this boy or similar case of such.

there are Law, there are school rule.

DM come out with the school rule. who are you to argue on that? then why you dont argue on company rule that is not binding with law??

Cutting 7cm of hair off the student is violent? To me, that is not violent, it just a disciplinary measures to let the students that breaking the school rules means getting punished.

Clearly in this case, the mother is not doing anything to discipline the kid. So what's going to happen if the school can't take any actions against their own student for violating the school rules and the mother is not discipling her kid? As one say, when in rome, do what the romans do. When you are in school, you abide to the school rules and not behave what you deem is fit.

Not too sure abt children not listening during CME. That is your assumption. I believe CME does serve it purpose and have benefitted to many young children.

Civil service so what? rules and regulation in each organisation are internally set. If you dont want to follow school rule. go another school. or best, go international school. If no money have to study in Government subsidise school, then comply.

remember, Begger can't chose... I am begger too BTW, that is why i taking gahment grant and subsidy. [:p]

exactly. i follow the singapore and MOE law. The point is that there is NO law right now here regarding this sort of discipline.

Everything is left to the DM's discretion

My point is, when you are in that particular school, you will be subjected to the punishment meted out by the authority in the school. In this case, you are studying in Springfield and you have long hair that touches the collar, so the authority of the school which is the DM punishes the student. The punishment, snip off the excess hair. Fair enough I would think. Unless the punishment meted to the student has become abusive then it would have been a different story.
