Cerano 1st Gear January 9, 2012 Share January 9, 2012 i dont agree with long hair but i also dont agree with the school's handling of this incident. this is a clearly a failure on their part on the matter of professionalism and proper behaviour. Any action involving the child should first be discussed by conferring with the parents and punitive punishments with the possibility to adversely affect the student's physical or mental well-being should be clearly justified and then be settled through the proper channels. Furthermore clearly forcing a student to write reflective statements they dont mean is ridiculous and back-firing. Instead they should have counselling For all you people out there saying what will happen when he goes to NS, that is quite ridiculous because we're not in a militaristic society. Military laws and ideals differ clearly from civillian life. Shame on the teacher/OM.
Cerano 1st Gear January 9, 2012 Share January 9, 2012 All of those punishments like caning and shaving are antiquated and should be done away like in proper modern society. What we need is non-physical punishment eg. suspension or demerit systems

Cerano 1st Gear January 9, 2012 Share January 9, 2012 (edited) actually, school should give allowance. students are students la. but the mother is too much... i dont think the mother is too much la. i think the child is the mother's, the school while being an educational authority has no right to lay hands on the kid whatsoever the reason. I believe in punishment but only effective punishment. Such humiliation will probably only lead to more rebellion and probably turn the child into a pai kia. Furthermore it may result in poor self-esteem when people mock that child and the child grows to be increasingly introverted. What good is that for our children? Why not speak to them nicely and if that doesnt work use a gradually increasing scale of repercussions that do not involve physical activity. For example, hair too long give warning. Ignore warning call parents. Parents refuse to get the hair cut explain to them that this is MOE's policy or standard guideline for school going children and if there is any issue take it up with the proper channels. Speedsun Clutched January 9, 2012 Share January 9, 2012 (edited) Maybe the mother likes watching Jap/Korean dramas with those students with long hair. She also wants to give her son a cool "character" look. Edited January 9, 2012 by Speedsun

Cowardly weasels hiding behind camera to damage people in the open!!! If the so-called 'stomp-victim' cant tahan being exposed, then dont do it in the first place. Cerano 1st Gear January 9, 2012 Share January 9, 2012 for those repeated hardcore offenders, old method is needed to wake them up (since 'soft' methods cant change them) suspension or boot them out of school or throw into boy's home if serious enough. want to discipline i believe its the parent's responsibility dont throw to the school. I am not against caning. I am just against other people caning my kid. Doesnt mean i cant do it myself.

Don't like the house rules, go to another school. i dont think so. I think such rules are clearly out of the jurisdiction of the school. Unless set by MOE. Which i believe should be the case, there should be standardised standards and punitive punishments across the board. Not what some trigger happy OM or DM decides as illegal just because he is having a bad day or just came from the army after he was given the golden handshake. We dont need double standards. We need uniformity of standard and professionalism. Clearly both of which are lacking in this instance Also, i want to emphasise that the responsibility to train the child rests with the parents not with the school unless it involves misconduct (cheating/violence) or misdemeanour (truancy) and even so punishment should not be in kind but in a clean responsible and mature manner School or not they have no right in causing emotional or physical duress to a student especially with the side effects that may come on later in life. Just because we were taught that way doesnt mean its the best way. Furthermore im sure youre aware of the fact that so many of these OMs/DMs were former SAF warrants with military mindsets which are unsuitable for institutions of learning imo. we dont live in sparta Edited January 9, 2012 by Cerano ↡ Advertisement
