Gohsj89 1st Gear January 7, 2012 Share January 7, 2012 This is a very technical question. EXPERTS, I would love to see your comments :) I went to do wheel alignment for my Vios at Stamford Tyre at Bukit Batok. After adjusting with all the laser machine fitted on, I test drive, realize my steering wheel is tilted to one side, I went back, the mechanic use a spanner to adjust both side of wheels with both side full lock respectively, to make the steering wheel straight. This, may I ask, renders a proper alignment job? It seems to be done wherever I go. Hankook tyre, Riverview Auto, all do the same this. I ask them, won't the alignment by laser be off once you adjust this? All say no, but I doubt. ↡ Advertisement
Tommimakinen Clutched January 8, 2012 Share January 8, 2012 Well bro what the mech did was ok... The laser computer is to only check yr toe n camber alighment... What he did by turning the wheel and made adjustment near the front wheel is the steering nut and will not change your alighment... My trusted mech who is also my gd friend also does the same thing on my car... I was also doubtful and i asked him and he explained...

Yup ever since I hv been doing wheel alignment, that is the way to get e steering wheel centered after e alignment is done. Some lazy/lousy mech dont even check if yr steering is centered after alignment n just give yr car back to u. Its up to u to check if its centered properly or not. Vhtfhwlego Supercharged January 8, 2012 Share January 8, 2012 in regards to the steering alignment, my record is with Kenny. I went up/down the ramp more than 8times trying to find the prefect angle. He never complain about me being a fussy owner.

SimonTan 2nd Gear January 8, 2012 Share January 8, 2012 But it's best to test drive the car ourselves after the alignment. Why let the mechanic drive? He may not feel the same as the owner preference.
AlvinDj 1st Gear January 8, 2012 Share January 8, 2012 (edited) After alignment, my steering is still slightly tilted... I was then wondering if it is the alignment not fully or properly done at first... But now that this thread conforms it is the steering nut... If I leave it as it is, will it affect my tyre wear..? But now that this thread conforms it is the steering nut... If I leave it as it is, will it affect my tyre wear..? As long as e alignment was properly done, it sud not. Most steering maybe just slightly off center after alignment. If very slight, sud not affect yr driving.
Gohsj89 1st Gear January 8, 2012 Author Share January 8, 2012 (edited) okayy.. i shall add on to my first post. I went back and demand for a re-alignment 2 weeks later. They tell me it's very off. Say i must have knocked to something, fact is, i didn't and i argued on this. Cut long story short, they redo for me. and tell me if anything still goes wrong, it's my wheel's problem already. b-------tting? i dunno. After that, steering wheel is still tilted. Since I was heading to Jurong, I asked the Stamford tyre there to adjust the steering wheel back for me. initially, it was slightly to the right, he adjust toooo much to the left, then back to centre., finally. this few days i drive, going at 100km/h i can hardly keep my vehicle straight. i hold my steering wheel striaght as how i would usually do.. sometime it go staight, else, it will just veer left.. driving 90km/h on wet road after a slight drizzle, i don't feel that my tyres are hugging the road like last time. practically, floating.. seriously, it is my car or it's their alignment skill cmi? inlinesix Hypersonic January 10, 2012 Share January 10, 2012 Steering wheel centre should be part & parcel of alignment. It was always checked whenever i do wheel alignment. Steering wheel centre only be checked on level ground.
