Seriously, I wonder what exactly are the criteria for becoming a minister?

Now and then I see some high flyers come in for GE, win it and got plug into some cushy appointments.

We have some Rear Admirals fitting in as Transport Minister or Education Minister, one running the port to look our water resources, just to name a few.

 

Many are invited to join the party but the choice is theirs to make. No doubt there is a possibility of higher returns in private sector, if so this is the case, we more than welcome them to explore such possibilities. So what's the point of bringing out your loss of privacy and reduced of income may affect the standard of living to your family only upon the recommendation of pay revised announced and not before it?

 

So your a million a year deal is insufficient to maintain a above average living standard then how about those whose husband and wife combine barely push thru 100K per annum? Perhaps your gang and you might consider revising certain regulations such as 12k cap when the average price for a house is 800K and maybe folks like us may not bear such grievances then?

 

You are right that it is harder for one to consider political office if the balance is tilted further in the future but that does not mean there will be no takers.We dont need some scholars whose career where mapped to the dot, we need people who is willing to address the issues we have and not only offer a listening ear but one who is taking actions to rectify and improve it.

 

Oh, I see that our views are consider as candid and that you respect it but then we need things done more than we need the respect.

Well, People are never contented. Oppo takes over, there will still be complaints. If I am an Oppo leader and takes over the govt, the first thing I will do is clamp down on social media. No more forums for people to make noise.

And any unhappy citizens can choose to leave. I will replace the head counts with milionaires from China.

 

I like China govt model of doing things to curb discontents. We should adopt that in some way

Ppl are not happy is not becos of the ministers' pay, I agree to that. It's just that ppl are fed up with the promises but no results plus increasing inflation & high cost of living just make ppl more dulan. Seeing more & more tax payers' money ever increasingly end up as their pay makes ppl really upset. It's like hiring a person to do a job but not delivering results and he/she is getting pay raise every now & then.

in the first place, since the review is started, they should already prepare for it. if they really put serving ppl as their top priority, they will not mind the pay cut. bear in mind that their pay still remain the highest and their life is still way better than a lot a lot of ppl in singapore.

 

this is the mindset they implanted to ppl like you and average singaporean. fortunately not all singaporean are so easily manipulated or psyco in this way. if not, there will not have any review going on in the first place.

 

sorry my view is definitely not the result of their mindset planting as u said. we live in a real world here. if u r aware of the payscales now happening in the corporate world and we want pple of certain calibre to lead, u know this is not a straightforward area to manage. but like some bros mentioned, their pay has been astronomical but it is under the spotlight now becos of the mismatch in performance.
