i believe speed limits are imposed on goods vehicles for several reasons.. some i can think of are

1. they are loaded with stuff / cargo. these things can and will fly all over in hard braking situation

2. they are loaded with stuff / cargo. CG of the vehicle is a variable - therefore dynamics of the vehicle is a variable

3. they are meant to be work vehicles - therefore have high usage and wear and tear

I've driven before goods vehicles and the stability / rigidity of the vehicle is really miles different from any passenger car.

of course newer vehicles are much better ... but there are always old and poorly maintained examples ... road rules are there to cater for the lowest allowable denominator

in my opinion, speed limits are necessary to curb idiots from speeding in these death traps.

Some days I drive a pte plate van, the braking sucks.... so do be careful if you are driving one [:)]

One thing good: the engine / gear ratio are designe to pull heavy loads, so if you are driving alone with no cargo, the acceleration from zero is quite impressive, can even start with 2nd gear :D

You are right. Just like air-borne when braking can make you feel like a pilot [laugh]
