Leclair 3rd Gear February 27, 2014 Share February 27, 2014 1. I have no problem with bikes forming up in front at traffic lights, if they move off fast. They usually do. No safety issue to me so i am fine. 2. Bikes squeezing between lanes in high speed on expressways or even normal roads is something i feel is a danger to themselves and cars at the same time. You never know the biker or the driver just do something funny without checking out for traffic conditions. 3. ↡ Advertisement
Phluvcat 6th Gear February 27, 2014 Share February 27, 2014 Sometimes I am quite peeved with bikes swarming around and in front of me at the red light and then those JB bikes start to "pak tor" in pairs when the light turns green. But overall I am OK with it as long as they do not impede me. The in-thing now is that at right turning lanes, they will cut all the cars at the turning lane lane, straddling between the turning lane and the one going straight...and then they got stuck in front waiting to turn as well, its a recipe for accident as they sometimes occupy part of the adjacent lanes and make things difficult for those going straight. Very inconsiderate and foolish I would say.

Banz86 5th Gear February 27, 2014 Share February 27, 2014 Actually it's the culture of their country where bikes are a common sight.. I was in Indonesia for a couple of days and was quite irritated even though I was sitting at the back that those bikes just keep swamping around the car. But my GF's father was super cool about it and just let them swamp around going about their business.. I think usually in SG, we would like to do things more efficiently and fast therefore we have the "tsk" reaction to these bikers. But if you really notice, the swarming of bikers usually are the Malaysian registered bikes. As for local riders, the will mostly queue in the split lanes. That's for when I ride previously.. Don't want to get in front of a car which is in a hurry. Bikers will always lose in an accident.
Darryn Turbocharged February 27, 2014 Share February 27, 2014 Actually its been proven that bikes going to the front of the queue at the lights actually makes traffic move faster. What annoys me: I'll be driving in lane 2, got some here splitting lanes 1 adn 2, I will indicate to left to merge to lane 3 - and the hero decides lane 3 is faster so he'll cut across the lane behind me and undertake me while my indicator is on. Hard to see him as you check your left hand blind spot when merging left, not your right side - and mostly they don't indicate anyway.

Atrecord Supersonic October 16, 2017 Share October 16, 2017 I think story incomplete or not told properly lah. Sounds like there was a cyclist going to cross zebra crossing, and vehicles all stopped, but a scooter zoomed through?

I was the 4th vehicle in the queue ... from my POV, I can see the scooter finally stopping at the zebra crossing .... and the cyclist's head and body slowly getting up and gesturing at the scooter ... so I can assume that the scooter had hit the cyclist when he zoomed past the first van with the cyclist hidden from him. I don't deny I hate bikers ... or to be precise, I hate the way they ride and risk their's and other people's lives and licenses. same thing happened to me in the same morning on my way to work, I am in the direction of tampines to Loyang and the usual morning jam under the loyang flyover will have buses stopping in the junction. I mean this is a regular thing for me already so I would expect some joker to pop out from behind the bus or a truck or van so I will approach slower ... but you will still find bikes or cars trying to make that dash across their blind spot. the shock still gets to me when bikes zoom past me at the traffic light when the lights turn green ... just imagine if the bike misses his mark and the cars move off immediately with the side mirrors reducing the bikes' path ... it will create problems for many people. *anyway, I don't think the accident was serious as the cyclist just gestured at the scooter as he got up before moving off ... no hold up at the crossing. Terrylmt Supercharged October 26, 2017 Share October 26, 2017 I abhor the "I have as much right as you to use the road" type of cyclist. Yes - you are permitted to ride on the roads. But that does not give you the right to hog the lane, be rude to other road users, demand to be given way because you are foot-pedal-powered and - as a result of your valiant but flailing efforts - swerving in and out within the lane. What right do you have to hold up traffic? Would you be in such vehement contempt if it were, say, a police car that high-beamed or horned at you for road-hogging then? Rant over for cyclists. I'll get to the motorcyclists after I've had a drink. Parched!
Banz86 5th Gear October 26, 2017 Share October 26, 2017 I think I'm one of the few whom has all 3 modes mentioned by the fellow peeps above. POV - As a cyclist (I ride a road bike) I would rather ride on cycling path. But me staying in the western side, we don't have a luxury to do that. However, I do really detest those riders that think they own the road. There are times that I will tell them off to stay off the middle lane especially on the west coast highway which is serious suicidal with the number of faster moving vehicles. POV - As a biker (I ride a Class 2) If I say I never lane split, I wouldn't call myself a biker. I understand that it is dangerous therefore, I tend to ride slower as my bike is heavy. I wouldn't say for the smaller bikes esp the Malaysian bikers. I caught up to 1 few riders at the traffic light and told them off for riding dangerously. Sometimes I myself as a biker don't understand why they're that suicidal. POV - As a driver (My own vehicle) Seriously, I really understand how arse bikers / cyclists can be. Especially I love going to Sentosa (early morning), there are loads of cyclists on the way. But drivers we have to understand that they're always on the losing end if we lose our cool. It is not worth going to the police station taking your statement or attending their funerals. I can tell you, I have been given a middle finger so many times when I stop to give them "advice". Just chill.

Just chill. Agree with you.. I’m also a cyclist and my Cycling motto is: -if I’m careless to wack into a stationery obstacle like parked trucks or huge refuse bins.. I will most likely die. -if I’m knocked by other vehicles especially trucks or bus, I’m most likely dead. With this 2 I’m always quite kiasi when I ride. As a motorist, I find it absolutely amazing how a lot of other cyclist can ride like they are Ironman.. I think they have balls of steel. I admit I have small balls.. I wanna safely cycle back to see my kids after every ride ↡ Advertisement
