PUB Now Admits Stanford Canal Could Not Cope...

Bro I think we are of the same page here.

What I worry is those we don't know...& they don't as well.

for years we have been told by the rulers that sgp has progressed well and achieved much under their care and we are always ahead of our neighbours....

now?..... sgp has slid to the levels, or maybe lower, than the same neighbours.....

i expect the same rulers be honourable enough to come out to the front and admit it plus make a promise they will have all fixed by a deadline or target date, but instead, what have we heard so far? ................ investigations? (fair enough, they may need to find out what they should have done in the first place to prevent these failures)

lets wait and see if they take forever to investigate

Excellent inference from our 3-meal-hawker-centre-food court-or-restaurant minister, worth every cent we pay him for. [thumbsup] [thumbsup] [thumbsup]

Really need someone of his extraordinary calibre to be this excellent vision of incorporating a drainage capacity reserve for our drainage system. BRAVO!!!

Geee...really beats me why PUB could not figure that out earlier... [confused]

To be fair to PUB, our floods only last for few hours.

But on the other hand, please don't flip flop and say that yes its due to some once in 50 yrs event. Then few wks later, say yes our capacity is not enough. [rolleyes]

Treat pple as if they were stupid <_<

These folks when facing criticism always fall back on past glorious track records, doing exactly what their political masters does.

And when the real sh!t hits the fan, these blokes become panicky & quickly throw out all sorts of smokescreens-like you said treat us like stupid folks.

This is just one of many episodes of failings which should never happen but they did.

I would not place too much hope on them improving & be better administrators of this land in this new year & the near future.

if there is any problem(s), it should be the attitude of the individuals who are parachuted to their positions as part of their RoA. They wrongfully assumed that the infrastructure and the established system of operating procedures in place are fail-proof. There is no such thing as a self mitigating system. It seems that they expect to inherit appointments where they do nothing more than being a watchkeeper. So long as you let the system run its course and nothing fails, all's well. Is that truly so?

Well, the reality is evidently contrary. As if such poor work attitude is not bad enough, we now realise that most if not all of such "101 Easy Company Paratroopers" do not possess the necessary and/or relevant paper qualifications and/or experience/expertise that the appointment mandates.

And so we saw the proverbial s--t hitting the fan but was it necessary an isolated event as damned statistics would have you to believe? I hardly think so. if you ask me, the preceding events were set in irrevocable motion a very long time ago. it was just a matter of when.

i have an idea that might alleviate the situation a little.

it can form part of the emergency response plan. we all know that liat towers and lucky plaza had been plagued with floods for n years now. authorities and building management need to do something about this.

previously excuse of rubbish slowing water flow, stamford canal working at 100% etc. were parameters that resulted in or worsened the floods.

why not consider deploying say 5 fire engine trucks with empty water tanks and then draw the water from the canal? that should buy some time in slowing the flood and improve flood recovery times.

while the canal widening is ongoing, this could form part of the sop to minimise recurrences. can probably activate a few stations and draw water from different points of the canal.

workable?

+1 ... do not treat people robert ... any lame excuse is acceptable

the liat tower guy who says stamford canal 100% and later kena rebutted has the last laugh now

Even more stupid is 1 old fart who said in 2006 if we voted for opposition, are they able to solve flooding issue? now guess he has to eat his words, his own pappie team can't do it and keep making excuses.

Old fart, where are you? come out and talk ok? dun hide like an old tortoise aka lau or gui

5 water trucks? Thats like 30 secs of rainfall that is being channeled to the canal. [laugh] Less 30secs of ponding! :D

Actually our bros' concept is there.

Coming from a civilian is [thumbsup]

Maybe a now-bo bian way is to find a place or places to build one or more underground water storage tanks & station a hi-power stationary pump to draw out excess surface discharge from this Stamford Canal to pump it into the underground tank/s.

Maybe it will be cheaper to build a diversion canal to the underground tanks rather than to station the expensive pumps which require maintenance & power/diesel to run.

But that will still be quite some time away so folks in Liat Towers have to "bear with us" till they find a suitable measure to alleviate the flash flood problem.

Exactly.

Instead of bring us more GOOD YEARS, they bring us the 'results' of oversights/failures accumulated over many years past, now surfacing as floods, train breakdowns etc etc.

Who cares about the fail safe of the system? It is their personal fail safe that is important. They know they can cut corners and even mess up and their fail safe is their backing, their pay package even if asked to leave, not fired...

Best part, people can stomp and complain in forums all they like, tomorrow's golf game is still on. [laugh]
