it is really worrying when PUB (the authority with data at hand) is unable to come out with the correct facts

how to trust the authorities anymore

Unfortunately 60%+ still did in May 2011 [bigcry]

The previous CEO should not be let off lightly also. The under-performance of Stanford Canal doesnt happen overnite. When Khoo Teck Chye (ex-ceo) was in-charge, nothing has been done to upgrade Stanford Canal or redirect part of the flow elsewhere..... World Class!!! Which Minister was/is in-charge of PUB? :o

Heard that Minister is among Professional Engineer, as well? [sweatdrop]

there must be some evidence against PUB, otherwise they won't be admitting ..... very typical of you-know-who

When I brought up non compliance with the standard and recommended practice, they have to admit no way to abscond, except for minister yakult

hmm.. maybe ex-navy chief has vision of ships sailing along the roads..

seriously, I don't understand why the stamford canal only started overflowing and reaching full capacity in the past 2 years... is it due to a severe change in weather pattern that happened suddenly? Did pub monitor the stamford canal capacity during the last few years?

I believe problem-absconding-people, yakult, absconded to other ministry when he decided he can not cope with the issue by malingering

It's like that... when everything is hunky dory, everybody goes to sleep, following the example of the top management. Top management 'jiak liao bee', every month wait to collect pay cheque only. Now it's their good luck to vacate the hot seat, and the new guy steps in have to resolve all the problems that have been accumulating over the years.

I believe A-team yakult, still multi-millionaire minister in another ministry?

Rumored is due to Marina Barrage will slow down the natural discharge rate of water compared to before before the barrage was build, but there is no concrete evidence that this is the cause

<FROM WIKIPEDIA>

Since completion of the Marina Barrage, there has been annual floodings in areas (e.g. Orchard Road shopping belt) which had been flood-free. There is a suspicion that the Barrage is slowing down the discharge rate of the storm water into the open sea. <_<

I believe otherwise (design calculations censored from review) by A-team problem-avoiding-people, multi-millionaire minister yakult now malingering in another ministry

Let's move on.

Better to worry who's gonna pay for the upgrading of Stamford Canal? What's next to go up? Water bills?

Do not have to worry. We are the ones sponsoring all oversights/malingering, as decided by the 60%+ [bigcry]

Whatever it is, it should be fairly easy, to people who have access to the necessary data, to pinpoint what has changed abruptly in the past 2 years. These could be possible causes contributing to the flooding problem. Of course, we say the weather could be a factor - is it true? Just need to pull out rainfall data and take a look.

Any construction or diversion to waterways? Things like this can be easily sussed out also.

I believe that to be the reason the minister absconded to another ministry [thumbsdown]

This is equivalent to about half the average monthly total of 287.4mm of rain recorded for the entire month of December over the last 142 years (1869 to 2010).

Everyone update yourselves.

It is no longer "once every 50 years"

Now, PUB calls it "once every 142 years".

[laugh][laugh]

You are right. Just minister malingering then absconded to another ministry

How many ministers does it take to realized that sgp has a flooding problem?

Ans: none. Yet.

Minister A says: happens once in 50 years.

Minister B says: drainage blocked by rubbish thrown by sgp ppl.

Minister C says: oh it's an honest mistake, let's move on.

Minister D says: I will apologize if what I said offended you.

The above is meant to be a joke. I will apologize if it offended anyone, minister included.

You got the point. You are right. the hard truth: A-team ministers are absconding from one ministry to another after GE. Only the one everyday show crying face not yet. [bigcry]

This reminds me of the golden rule in army days

"You can do anything u want, just don't get caught". If what u suggest is true, they really got caught with their pants down. Maybe was a ploy to see how PUB says & when they keep insisting not due to Stamford canal overflowing, ta-da come out with evidence

More likely that PUB's monitoring sensors repeatedly recorded canal overflowing [bigcry]
