Zafira18 1st Gear January 1, 2012 Share January 1, 2012 Nice to hear from a owner. Yes, read about the gearbox. Have my fears about it too. I should be fairly proficient with it after a while but wifey drives the car as well, though her usage is compared to mine is like 30/70 ... but I can see the rejection coming already. Nevertheless, this remains on the list until she does object. Yes, is not too difficult to handle the semi auto gearbox. In fact, my family dun feel any gear change even i drive 100% in manual mode. But you will get to experience the power from the tap just like manual car, 1.6 low road tax n easily >11km/ltr with stock 17" rim..... ↡ Advertisement
Proton_neutron 1st Gear January 1, 2012 Share January 1, 2012 but the exterior profile of the Sharan is too much like a mini VW Transporter. Haha. Estima still sells on the rather sleek looks [not boxy kind].
Happily1986 5th Gear January 1, 2012 Share January 1, 2012 wish and stream belongs to compact mpv category so ts should look at full size mpv eg vellfire, voyager etc.
Bravooc10 1st Gear January 1, 2012 Share January 1, 2012 Bang for buck would be ford.. Wanted the sorento then before popped into citroen just to look look see see and hooked onto the Picasso. 5008 should be good drive interior less chubby holes compared to Picasso and lower roofline. Enjoy shopping.
Ocean6576 4th Gear January 1, 2012 Share January 1, 2012 Guess Picasso and Sorento are a close run. Picasso has the overall family car feel while Sorento more "fierce" look. Prefer Sorento though, get the SX version.
Proton_neutron 1st Gear January 1, 2012 Share January 1, 2012 Haha. But Sorento's interior build quality is all hard-plastic, and 2nd row seats legroom not as generous as the Wish's. 3rd row strictly for kids, and no boot space with 3 rows of seats up. Sorento's exterior and size is a slight upgrade from the Wish, but interior almost a downgrade, if not the same. haha.

Reliable with automotive parts also easily available for Previa unless you are ready and eng eng cheng cheng nothing to do, then go for contis. Genes 6th Gear January 2, 2012 Share January 2, 2012 How can the apv be an upgrade to the wish? And besides, I remember ts and another bro have replied that apv is a no go.
Proton_neutron 1st Gear January 2, 2012 Share January 2, 2012 Get the Estima. If you want the Previa, get the VW Sharan. Haha. Seriously, VW Sharan is like what I've said -> A smaller VW Transporter Van.
Oneguy 1st Gear January 4, 2012 Author Share January 4, 2012 Sorry. I'm back. Started work and its killing me. Current ride is WISH. REG 2006. Family getting bigger, hence need to change a ride. Was considering only new rides and hence started this thread. Thanks to all the brothers that replied and now so far, on the list is as follows: [possible][$129K] pisscaso [possible][$149K] sorento [possible][$170K] galaxy [possible][$193K] previa [possible][$204K] sharan [out-of-budget] alphard [out-of-budget] XC90 Question: What's the difference between a PREVIA and ESTIMA? Same car but one is AD and the other is PI? From what I understand, ESTIMA spare tyre is on the middle. PREVIA is not. Any body can educate me on the difference between the two? Same car but one is AD and the other is PI? From what I understand, ESTIMA spare tyre is on the middle. PREVIA is not. Any body can educate me on the difference between the two? Erm, There're plenty of variants [mostly aesthetics] for the Estima. One difference between Estima and Previa are tinted rear windows [standard on Estima from Japan], and 3rd row fold flat seats in Estima. Previa's are cheapscate, tumble forward 3rd row. Other than that, engines and all should be the same. I'm not sure if Previa is using 5AT or 7CVT in the Estima.
Proton_neutron 1st Gear January 4, 2012 Share January 4, 2012 Toyota got 2 other 7 seater models - Vanguard - Mark X Zio Not sure if still got new ones though, but definitely PI not AD Vanguard is a 5+2 version of the Rav4 LWB -> Same size as Borneo Motors' [Parallel Importers are selling the SWB Rav4]. Mark X Zio is also more of a 5+2. Not gonna be practical as an upgrade from the Wish.
Guangster Clutched January 11, 2012 Share January 11, 2012 S-Max or Galaxy is good. I am driving a picnic and been hearing good review on Estima as well. I also wonder what car to change after this. Previa may not be as good as Estima in term of the features (cannot 100% confirm). Not sure about Previa but Estima can have automated moving 2nd row seat to allow easy access to 3rd row. Maybe Previa can do now. Depending on what the PI can get for you. Best is to test drive all the cars you desire to get the feel and pleasure of driving. I personally find that after sales service is important and the car spare parts available. And whether need to go back to AD for servicing or able to find any workshop outside. I have been hearing that long time for a regular VW servicing so you may want to find out from the VW bros out there. So far, toyota are quite reliable in their cars and fast in regular servicing and easy to go outside and find a workshop that service toyota cars. ↡ Advertisement
