(or they overlap?) Soft Rock (including lots of alternative and progressive bands here for want of a better category): Bonnie Tyler The Pretenders The Cranberries U2 REM Radiohead Kansas (could be classified as Hard Rock depending on the song. e.g. Dust in the Wind is definitely soft rock, Carry on Wayward Son is def. Hard Rock) Pink Floyd Lynyrd Skynyrd (again could be considered Hard Rock depending on the song) Hard Rock (lots of them overlap with Metal): Led Zeppelin Deep Purple Guns N Roses Def Leppard Bon Jovi AC/DC Skid Row Nirvana Soundgarden Pearl Jam Alice In Chains A Perfect Circle Metal: Metallica Iron Maiden Black Sabbath Slayer Megadeth Anthrax Testament Motley Crue Opeth Dream Theater Sepultura Tool Nine Inch Nails I'm sure I'm forgetting lots. I didn't know we could add categories, otherwise I would've added Power Metal (like you did), Progressive Metal, Technical Death Metal, Melodic Death Metal and Black Metal. But I think most people on MCF won't know or won't care about such music anyway.

So i will always split them up (since most ppl thought metal = heavy metal) coz the music they play are rather distinct from one another. Ya, guess only hard rock is the max most ppl can accept. Metal is not really friendly to the ears (or brains) of most listeners here.

Ender Hypersonic December 29, 2011 Share December 29, 2011 For lao uncle like me, I find it more meaningful to classify them by era rather than genre. I listen mostly classical music from the late 60's and early 70's, hence the greatest all time rockers are from this era Late 60's-early 70's era, greatest all time rock for me Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath Beatles, Rolling Stones Stretch a little to late 70's to early 80's Pink floyd, AC/DC (til 90's) Lynyrd Skynyrd Metallica (til 90's)
