Most of us use valet parking service without a second thoughts.

Let me stop you right there. I have NEVER, and will NEVER allow a valet to touch any of my cars. If valet parking is "required", I would rather pay them the valet fee to allow me to drive the car into the lot myself (likewise for getting it out).

But in some areas u need to use the valet. At SGH eye center, u need to use the valet parking as u can't park at the carpark nearby yourself, it seems. So far so good [sweatdrop]

Sure. If sweet talk doesn't work, be firm. And offer a little something extra like a tip. This kind of thing CPIB won't catch one. [laugh]

The valet at Thomson Medical Centre caused a dent on my car years ago...

Didn't notice when I collected the car at night. Only saw the next morning so no chance to demand for compensation. Since then, I'll try to avoid valet unless really no choice...

Turbocharged

I personally heard of this case. The owner went to a restaurant (I think is along YCK rd) which require valet parking. what the driver did was park the customer cars around those private residential area and block the way. i think angry residents gave one particular car a long round scratch around the car.

upon returning the car to the customer, the restaurant refuse to pay for the damage citing the valet parking service is out source to another company. not the restaurant fault. [rolleyes]

Some customers at MBS do request for this, especially the ones with supercars. The valet driver will just accompany the owner as a passenger to the assigned lot.

A more practical and equitable way will be to use chalk to mark all existing scratches / damages in front of both owner / valet officer when the car is handed over to the valet driver. This is a common practice in car rental industry overseas: before handing the rented car to the customer, the rental car staff will jointly record all existing damages together with the customer. The disclaimer should then be modified to say "The Management will be fully responsible for All NEW damages." Period

You'll be surprised that nowadays, those major car rental companies don't really care about minor scratches and dents.

Rented a number of cars in Australia and New Zealand for the past few months from major car rental companies and it seems like all the employees were not diligent in identifying minor damages.

They pass you the key and off you go to find the vehicle yourself and identify if there are any other damages besides the ones already identified on the sheet they pass to you.

On average, I always found almost double the number of scratches and dents than those indicated.

Wake up smell the roses.

Valet parking is for the rich. If you had to ask, you probably are not in the category to deserve valets. The rich doesn't care if their cars get scratched and they don't have cash.

This is Singapore.
