Risks in using valet parking service...

Most of us use valet parking service without a second thoughts.

When we read the fine print on the reciept, it says:-

......The management accepts no responsibility for theft, damage, or other misdemeanor caused to vehicles, equipment or contents herein whilst parked in the premises. Vehicles are parked at owner's risk.

Does it mean based on the printed statement, if we find our car damaged, scratched, or our belongings stolen/damaged, the valet service provider can just shrug and walk away, telling us "Too bad, you parked it at your own risk"???

Some valet serives even drive your car to some public backlanes and park it there ie not within the premises.... again, if there's damages etc found, too bad.

The owner of the car (their guest/customer) leaves the car in their hands, but they take no responsibility at all. The point is at many hotels/clubs, it appears that the customer/patron has no other choice but to use the valet parking service, unless he's prepared to spend an extra 30 mins or an hour to park his own car somewhere else and walk back to the hotel/club.

Do you use valet service under the circumstances where they take no responsibility at all?

BTW, i do empty valuable contents from the car and take a good look for scratches etc before and after the valet service is executed.

In fact, has any bro here successfully claimed damages/compensation from valet service provider?

Basically, all businesses in Sunny Sillypore accepts no responsibility for whatever bad things that may happen to you or your property. And, it's perfectly legal.

Let me check with frens in legal services and see how come things are biased against customers............

Wait until you read the terms and conditions from the banks and financial institutions, they are lagi worse. If one day, someone walks into a bank and withdraw all your $$$ w/o proper identification being verified by the bank employee, there is nothing you can do also (as per their T&Cs). [bigcry]

think if ur car damaged, u still can sue the service provider, as under Unfair Contract Term Act (UCTA), if the cause was due to neglience of the party which is the SP will make the exemption clauses void... hence can sue... just think lar hor, still must ask the xpert friends lol

Once I questioned the valet service manager at a hotel about this, she said "Dont worry, if our cctv videos show the damage/scratches are caused by our staff/driver, we will compensate you." I asked her, "In this case why not add in their disclaimer precisely what she said.".... She replied, "Told you dont worry. If you are still not satisfied, please write in the customer survey form about this...."

I doubt their cctv cams cover every part of the carpark/driveways....

These irresponsible pple really 'chud pattern' everywhere, just to cover themselves.

I will never let anyone drive my car. First the insurance explicitly stated it is not allowed and second I just don't trust them driving it :D

A more practical and equitable way will be to use chalk to mark all existing scratches / damages in front of both owner / valet officer when the car is handed over to the valet driver. This is a common practice in car rental industry overseas: before handing the rented car to the customer, the rental car staff will jointly record all existing damages together with the customer. The disclaimer should then be modified to say "The Management will be fully responsible for All NEW damages." Period

Its safer this way.

Many valet drivers are day-time van/lorry driver, seldom get a chance to drive cars / sports cars. I have seen with my own eyes how these idiots handled customers' cars................ :o

actually no need to chalk-mark the car body, either a few digit pictures (very quickly done) or a sheet of paper (pre-printed with drawing of a car, typically used by car rental company) for recording the existing scratches etc, wont take more than 2-3 mins... unless the customer is in a real hurry to piak piak? :D:D

In SG, companies are protected more than consumers. SG garment is more scared of companies than customers. That's why our CASE is a toothless tiger

Even if our car AD sells a lemon car to you, you have nothing to demand from them. U cant return the car, you can't ask for refund....

Another good example is our credit cards. In SG, u cannot cancel your credit card purchase if u are not satisfied with what u paid for. Whatever u sign for, the transaction goes through. Even the merchant cannot cancel it. You got to call the bank and beg them to do it and they still won't do it.

In US or other developed countries, you can do that. The merchant can reverse the purchase electronically.

So what World Class are we talking about?
