I think I've replied to this topic before on this thread.

But we used to visit Macau at least twice a year when I worked in HK. Or I passed through it with my job.

Loads to see and do.

The furniture shops just down the hill from St Paul's Cathedral are always worth a visit if you like to see and touch oldish Chinese furniture.

One place we never missed was Fernandos at Hac Sa Beach, Coloane. That's Black Sand beach.

Fernandos is a great free and easy restaurant.

Always ate the Sardines, roast chicken, prawns and tomato salad accompanied by a few bottles of Casal Garcia Vino Verdi. Can't find this wine in Singapore but we had quite a few bottles of it when we were in Portugal three weeks ago. Cheap but fabulous.

Fernandos also serves a great suckling pig and many other items.

If you do nothing else in Macau you must try this restaurant.

You can catch a bus both ways or taxi.

We always took the bus.

Other restaurants? Well 'A Lorca' is a very good Portuguese reataurant, worth a visit.

Again Sardines are cooked just right.

And of course the famous Portuguese dish of Bacalhau which is dried salted cod. This is a dish you have to get used to. We love it.

IIRC there's a Chinese temple just along the street from A Lorca and when there during CNY they had the largest and longest string of fireworks I've ever seen. Held up by a telescopic crane.

When lighted it must have taken well over 5 minutes to finish.

Lots of restaurants on Taipa as well.

Macau is a great place for a long weekend.

They have an Opera Festival there in October I think which if you like Opera is excellent.

Actually average temp in HK not consider very cold la. Normally is between 15-18 deg. Only certain days the temp will drop due to raining or sudden cold current. Wear jacket and maybe inside some heatwave type thermal wear and scarf will be able to survive. biggrin.gif

We lived for a while in Greenwood Terrace right at the top of the 'mountain' at Fo Tan.

During winter mornings you could regularly slip on the ice which had formed on the pavement out side the block.

Never happened when we moved to Clearwater Bay and then to Tso Wo Hang Tsuen
