Concertina wire really no joke lo … my platoon mate , first day of course at 30 SCE ,  glove got caught by the wire but continue to pull , kena cut , main vein kena … till now , 30 years Liao , right hand still cannot really function properly …

Like my uncle used to tell me, it is people without much academic qualification that become bosses as they need to fight and survive.  The graduates are given a table and a chair and they get comfortable working for others. 

Statistically, there are 30-40 men to 1 PC, so likely to have more peng who are more successfully than the officer.

Actually during reservist, you can see many people driving, whether men or commander. Like all are doing quite well. 😂

Maybe that hokkien peng is a car dealer le.

oh yah... talk about sandbags... our field fort(itification) exercise was nightmarish... i think the sandbags we had to fill, could have built RWS 🤣

and got 1-con, 2-con, 3-con, 4-con, 5-con, 9-con (the most siong), 10-con... dunno why whenever we touched the con wires, confirmed rain heavy... during one such exercise, even our underwear and socks were drenched... after that, half the platoon had body rashes and reported sick...

but i was quite good at it leh... it's the dismantling part that was siong, in that have to squeeze each coil up and flatten it... then sometimes to speed things up, just load them up our m113 instead of waiting for store tonners... very dangerous for those inside the vehicle when transporting the wires 😅

but got anything really useful to learn or not? 

looking back, my platoon mates and i agree that what we learnt as pioneer and armour... didn't really have much real-life application, unless we go be terrorists 😂

No. The champion for digging is from 2 PDF.

My reservist was post to 2 PDF and the name already say it all .. PDF - Please Dig Faster.

All digging are using bare hand and no machinery aid.

wah... another SCE...

you which year one? i got one classmate in univ, was a signaller in 30SCE. apparently was helping out with bridging even though not trained... then suay suay one finger tio giap and the tip was crushed... so he one finger was permanently damaged... the fella said he was compensated like 4k as a result, then used it to buy hi-fi 🤦‍♂️

another thing about digging... is that during defense exercise, it was farking suay and siong for tall people... like me...

TMD, tell us foxhole must dig till chest level wor... shit, even waist level also haven't reached by the time ex cut... even the shellscrape also must be bigger than other people's ones... 🤣

92 Delta …. Mono intake .. BMT at SOCE , then posted straight to next door ….

lots of mangled fingers actually especially when all are tired during the last 2-3 bays lo …

But dig one time stay one week, no need to do MTC, no need do delay ops, no need do any night movement to dawn attack. 

Bring holiday food, like go camping like that.

But in my whole NS life, from BMT to MR, I only dug 3 trenches, once in BMT, 2nd time was crescendo the rock hill, and last one was when we played enemy for 1 SIR.

another name for it is pioneer, but of course when we first started NS, didn't know any of these terms anyway... And i remember during BMT posting, when those read out said posted to pioneer, they could have been thinking posted to go be writer/editor/reporter for the Pioneer magazine (how many here remember this magazine??)... 🤣

For my time, they use engineers already, my coy only got 2 of us posted to engineers and as i am still ignorant what engineers do at that time, was wondering why most got posted to infantry or armour, thought i am going somewhere special and lookiong forward to it ...rofl

really got a shock of my life when we reached the camp, got F to get out from the 3 tonner and knock it down with alibababag on a rocky floor and kenna tekan right away with situp change, jumping jack change, push up change and Fkg with all the vulgarities non stop, even threw chairs at us, luckily din hit me😅

means moved to jurong camp liao... the move took place just as i was going to ROD...

my 4.5 mth at SOCE was the most siong time in NS... 

the 24-bay... those memories... one of the things that i was glad to put behind me when i was posted out to armour 😆
where the AVLB can launch a bridge about the same length, in less than 10 min!!!

also 30SCE? 

during our armour conversion course, got a few regulars from 30SCE posted there. One skinny SGT was sadist. Kept telling us how back at 30SCE, he always got his pioneers to throw the whole cupboard down from the bunk upstairs onto the ground floor... wah lao... need to do until like that or not... 

on vulgarities... after one Ex Crescendo, back in SG debrief, our brigade commander commented that our platoon too vulgar 🤣  TMD, we normal 7-men section, during that Ex, SAF made us guinea pig to try out 4-men sections... so our manpower was down by ~40%, but still expected us to do minefield within the same timing... so our platoon was farking throughout in the otherwise quiet night when doing it... and we later learnt that brigade commander in his rover going round whole ex ground, stopped by to observe us for a while... hence his comments subsequently... Lol...

Lol, tall ppl disadvantage in many things, like log PT, digging trenches, carrying obms....etc

 

Kenna dug 2 trenches in a nite during sispec, kns, coz my buddy n I wanna dig fast then can nap inside but got asked to dig for PC also...really @#%$ 

Then there was this place called boh sua tian where digging is almost impossible, hard sandy place and can see sparks when hit something hard like broken toilet bowl 😂
