What I hated carrying was the 84mm recoilless rifle. Shit! that damn thing once you squat down with it, in FBO, cannot stand up. Your buddy gotta pull you up from the back.

Nowadays ns is not what was used to be. The training and weapons is not as heavy as yesteryears but now even combat units find a 4km route march a struggle! Last time every exercise minimum was 7-8km even a simple movement to contact was 7km. This wan havent included forced marches.....now only guards unit have those but timing i not sure. No wonder some thought i was in a guards unit.... Edited by Eviilusion

ha everything is good in hindsight la..  i guess now i would think if only i got a combat posting la

but in a deskbound office environment.. i saw all the politics and brown nosing at a young age...  stood me in good stead i would say

Yes, in terms of actual transferability to real life working skills, nothing beats being a clerk (but a project clerk, not one of those chief clerk office professional shredders and clock watchers). Not only do you learn office politics 101, but you become master of every single commonly used business software - word processing, powerpoint, spreadsheets, database management, and often even DTP (desktop publishing) and if you're in just the right vocation, CAM/CAD.

You're exceedingly unlikely to need to know how to fire a rifle or throw a grenade in the course of your white collar job, but the skills you learn in non-combat vocations will likely stand you in very good stead.
