Malaysia : Road Trip to Cameron Highlands

I rather choose Strawberry Park over Equatorial if prices are equal. I have stayed both and SBP gives a more rustic feel. Furthermore, the turnoff into SBP from the main road is less than 1km to Brinchang. It means either you have a short jam into town or park near the junction (anywhere will do) and walk. The jam from Equatorial to Brinchang can be very bad especially around dinner time. It can take more than 1 hour just to reach town.

Most of the steamboats are similar and nothing great to shout about. But the Tze Char at OK Tuck in Brinchang is the best so far.

Agreed. In fact the steamboat at OK Tuck also better. Stayed there 2 nite, some of the steamboat is really machiam like Organic Vege pot

And they are getting all touristy and expensive. Somemore give CB face if you don't eat there sometimes. I always wonder why every shop insist on giving you prawns and fishes when all we want is the fresh veges from CH. We dun go to the hills to eat seafood. <_<

lol agreed. But the local there generally are more friendly. when u aiming ur camera to take picture, they will even stop before u, and cross after u finish ur shot. most other place especially in the bigger city, the msians will just walk pass without caring much.

Route from Singapore to Cameron Highlands

Leave Singapore by your choice of route (Woodlands or Tuas)

To bypass KL, take Exit 214

Take exit 137 Simpang Pulai to use the new route up to Cameron Highlands.

Recommended food include Jasmine Cafe, OK Tuck, Hong Kong Restoran, tea plantation stuff. I went on a weekday and had a blast because there wasn't any crowd. I only stayed till Saturday so that I can see the pasar malam. Suggest you get your car parked at Brinchang by 3pm and spend the evening there walking and eating. Don't try to go to Brinchang only at dinnertime unless you plan on eating supper.

I just came back!

Nice drive. Going up using Tapah. Back using the new road.

But the traffic at Brinchang is mad especially in the evening. Supposed to go there to relax but ended up more stress. minus the pasar malam, every thing else is nice.

Btw, Boh tea plantation closed on Monday.

I did that too. I went up at abt 6am. total darkness but very little traffic (Except couple of buses picking up the children to go school).

Thanks to all the bros here for your great advice on CH... will take note of the potential jam in the evening at Brinchang & try to get there earlier for dinner. I'll likely be going on last week of sch holidays on Mon... hopefully the traffic condition would not be as bad.

Btw, after dinner & pasar malam, will there be street lights on the roads back to Equatorial Hotel? I've never driven in the night in M'sia before except for 1 occasion from JB but the roads are pretty well lit there.

Twice, must be quite good lah. I read the dry version with duck herbal soup is better, always wanted to try it but never did as I am always on the east coast.

Only certain part no street light but as long as ur car light works properly, not much a problem. Right outside Equatorial got a Bah Ku Teh not bad. Also got a massage shop. quite cheap. There is only 1 Shell station on the hill (opp OK Tuck, near to the pasar malam). make sure u got at least half day before u leave the hill for home. Edited by Zenithpool

My tank was almost full when leaving Singapore.

Completely forgot to top up my tank until about reaching Tanah Rata... then realized already near empty.

At Tanah Rata, went to Petronas but they only have 95. Counter staff ask me to go pump at Shell, just another 100m away.

... I was hoping they will let me top up 95, since they don't have 97. But too bad, Shell has. [laugh]

Intend to have a night stopover on my way back s'pore so not to be too tired out... any good suggestion that need not go into city like KL or Malacca? Initially tot of Mines resort but read some bad review... Maybe PD but like not much to do there also.
