Kb27 Supersonic May 3, 2014 Share May 3, 2014 what is rail assets? Comprises? Thought the hardwares were from gahment (LTA), operators only operate and maintain? Seems to be the trend here. Gahmen use taxpayers money to give to train operators, town councils ($2 company). Then sell back to gahmen to make profit. Who's the real sucker ? ↡ Advertisement
Solar Turbocharged May 3, 2014 Share May 3, 2014 This becomes like the model where gov owns all the hardware and software, the vendor will run it. The Only risk is the operator screw up operations. Nearly bau jiak. Time to load up this counter?
Throttle2 Supersonic May 3, 2014 Share May 3, 2014 I lost $10k overall in SMRT. My poor judgement. Now left with about 20,000 shares , just bochap in CDP
JE3722 1st Gear May 3, 2014 Share May 3, 2014 Dont understand the logic. SMRT given monopoly to ran the rail system and stations. With that, they branched into the retail and advertising, capitalising on the human traffic flow - which made them millions. They are able to generate the millions only because that have the stations and train service to have the human traffic flow. Why they always complain on the lost making train/bus service but never complain how that helped them generate revenue from retail/advert? It is like Amazon selling Kindles at cost/loss but keep the people in the Amazon eco system and generate sales from books and serivces tied to Kindle Amazon. Or the Telcos giving handset discount to keep us paying monthly bills. If SMART want to sell back the asest to the Gov, then Gov should only have them on service contract to run the train service - like service contract to the cleaning services. Keep the retail and advert revenues for the public coffers.

SingTel also kpkb about lost sms revenue but conveniently forgot to mention how much more they are making from broadband. Ask them if they are willing to exchange their broadband revenue for their old sms revenue lah. It's almost like Caltex kpkb nobody fills up with their RON 92 after they introduced RON 98. This is the flip side to privatisation Looks good on paper Gov share in these companies is now worth more .... but it is "looks good on paper" only With no competition, these companies no need to inovate, but is still under pressure to deliver yearly increase in profits for the stock market. SMART is now paying back what they put off for the last few year... Skimming on mantaince in the past... now forced to spend more (PUS interest) now to undo the damage...
