Bye2 Neutral Newbie January 28, 2012 Share January 28, 2012 I am with N*U*. To me cheapest or not is not main concern. Anyway I like their idea of "orange force", really need these people around when in accident. Can be very stressful, not usre what to do. Oh yes, N*U* dont do third party claim, I was told to get help from a workshop. And I found out that all the workshops I contacted dont do thrid party claim on Malaysia registered vehicle. So now I am stuck. May have to claim my own policy. Any advice how to claim from malaysia vehicle?

Sometimes the problem is that certain cars, only N*UC will insure, other insurers refuse to cover, so you're stuck with them… LL You should always source around for the best pricing. But bear in mind must take note of the few points: 1. Low excess 2. best is allow any driver and try to avoid high excess for driver under 25 4. NCD protector sometimes the best price does not offer the best coverage. So must evaluate carefully. My experience with NTUC is that for young drivers their premium is super duper high even with 10% NCD. But when you used names with ages above 40 (accident free) its quite low

NTUC charge very high for young drivers. I was quoted around $1400+ for 24 year old with no NCD and when I used my dad's name. for the same car they quoted 600+ with 50% NCD. Neutralsg 5th Gear July 27, 2014 Share July 27, 2014 (edited) Yes. NTUC charge very high for young drivers. I was quoted around $1400+ for 24 year old with no NCD and when I used my dad's name. for the same car they quoted 600+ with 50% NCD. Let's analyse: $1400 (without NCD) $600 (with 50% NCD) which means $1200 without NCD for your dad. Difference = $200 for a young driver below 25 years old without NCD IMO the difference for young driver below 25 years old and one above is hardly worth complaining since the risks posed by drivers below 25 years old due lack of experience can be much higher. For info, it could have costs much more based on my experience with Direct Asia. Nevertheless, it would do all drivers good to check well in advance for the best possible cost vis a vis coverage instead of last minute call for quotations. Just my 2 cents and have a nice day! ;) Edited July 27, 2014 by Neutralsg

But when you used names with ages above 40 (accident free) its quite low Thanks for the comments. Some points that I would consider: 1) Low excess - for the price of a lower insurance premium, I am prepared to live with a somewhat lower excess, within reason. 2) For my type of car, I won't allow it to be driven by just anyone, unless I really trust that person. This include valets, workshops and Even if my son is of age, I wouldn't allow him to drive unsupervised. 4) NCD protector - IMO is a means of fleecing car drivers of more premium. There are a host of considerations which the insurance company will consider, including deskbound job vs sales type (on the road most of the time), age, number of years' driving experience and accident history. From there they will draw up a driver's profile and your premium will be determined accordingly.
alex976 5th Gear July 28, 2014 Share July 28, 2014 NCD protector and low excess really helps. The reason being is that on the road there are all sorts of drivers. you can vouch that you are a careful driver but you cant vouch for all the other road users. To some people NCD protector is not necessary and a waste of $$. My friend got involved in an accident, he lost his 50% NCD (cos insurance company concluded that he was at fault). He was always a careful driver but he told me this " i should have get that NCD protector ($100+) when i renewed my car insurance". When Shit happens, people always go i should have do this and that. To avoid saying this just be adequately protected. If you choose to save that extra $$, you just have to be extra careful and when shit happens just dont regret. Theredstar 2nd Gear July 28, 2014 Share July 28, 2014 Insurance premium is due to many factors, and dependent on the claims experience of each insurer e.g. There was a time when a lot of youngster were buying lancer and crashing. Insurance premium was thru the roof for this particular make and age range. So yeah, need to shop around. You'll be amazed!! NTUC? No Trouble Until Claim? Icetee168 3rd Gear October 1, 2015 Share October 1, 2015 Sean JW Yesterday at 7:58pm Dear NTUC. Please be informed that I have a pending case against your insured SFY6780P for which NTUC have accepted liability for your insured. My brand new BMW was rear ended and has been stuck in Performance Motor until today (Now more than a month) as you have made a low offer which cannot be accepted by the official agent to start the repairs. As I understand, you have stopped communicating with Performance motor. This is unacceptable and certainly reflects very badly on the insurance coverage which you provide! Please expedite the matter. Taken from NTUC facebook and it seems like the rumour is true that it is not easy filing a claim against NTUC...their slogan: "Insurance make simple, make honest, make different" seriously I have strong doubt about the honest part... Icetee168 3rd Gear October 3, 2015 Share October 3, 2015 sometimes end consumers gotta make the right choice and exercise their rights and give dishonest insurer a miss. Try thinking back, whats the point of paying for an insurance and at the end of the day they find ways and means and used underhanded methods to discourage the claims? after all these years all the GLCs that had been setup to benefits the citizens have forgotten their core motive of their existence which is too pass on the savings to the citizens and now all have become such big 'giants' and their core objective is too maximise profits at all costs and now their stakeholders are their shareholders whom they are supposed to be answering to...sad but true that is it rather tough being a true blue Singaporean these days... Some of my friends told me NTUC has the best value policy in the market. But I have my doubts. Try to compare around as there are websites now available to compare from various insurers. Not sure if we can share links here though.

It is usually cheaper if you get an offline quote from an insurance agent. ↡ Advertisement
