Yes it shld be. Afterall forester belongs to the higher segment

When the 4th Generation Forester 2.0 XT was released in 2013, the pricing was around $144K (COE level $50K plus). The 1st Generation XV 2.0 pricing was then around $141K (only circa $3K difference) and released a year earlier.

At today's COE level of $30K plus, the 4th Generation Forester 2.0XT pricing still hovers around the $140K mark presumably due to the VES surcharge of $20K. On the other hand, the 2nd Generation XV 2.0 is now priced at $99.8K (below $100K). A huge $40K difference.

While the Forester may belong to the higher segment, but if a potential buyer does not mind a smaller SUV, I personally feel that buying the XV 2.0 (a newer model) now is really value-for-money, not to mention it comes with Eyesight as compared to the current Forester which does not have this safety feature.

Went test drive XV ytd, really need to coax the shy girl a bit, after that was pure shiokness.

SE says new forester could be here by 1q 2019. No hybrid though

Maneuverability is something I am concerned abt too. But I think i just need some time to get used to it.

More inclined to XV at the moment.

Sharing one observation, my wife (~152cm) cannot reach the xv tailgate when open but she can reach the forester one easily.Haha

But she think forester too big for her to drive.

Yes. Furthermore, OMV for XV is higher than Forester NA.

Neutral Newbie

Can anyone advise on the FC for XV? and how does it compare to Forester NA?

And also advice for regular maintenance? Whats the frequency and cost like?

XV and Forester NA are really priced very attractively now, and am seriously considering one..

What bothers me now is all the rumors and hearsay about the bad FC and high maintenance of Subarus...

In actual fact it lighter....

But rather some how during the test drive felt that forester is more sensitive to the pedal... partly could be the way the car is tune....

But like I mention...

The xv need more foreplay...

Current xv mileage is 4000km.

Loving every moment when it keep pushing the poiston......

Very smooth

At 100km the rpm is around 1.5k

At 120km the rpm is close to 2k...

Very nice drive ..

What bothers me now is all the rumors and hearsay about the bad FC and high maintenance of Subarus...

Here is my earlier take on the FC for XV:

People shun boxer engines - or Subarus for that matter - due to its perceived thirst.  If majority of your journeys consist of short start-stop drives, then the XV would not yield good mileage.  But if you do mostly expressways, then the FC is acceptable.

So far my XV returns an average of 12.5km/L with a 70:30 highway/urban ratio.  As a comparison, my previous rides, the ubiquitous Vezel, returned an average of 15.8km/L; my Hyundai i30 was 13km/L; and my good old Hyundai Matrix (a manual), was 12.4km/L - all under similar driving pattern and loading.

Comparatively thirstier than most cars I have driven?  Definitely.  But considering this is a 2-litre block paired with a reassuring all-wheel drivetrain, I would say that while there is nothing to shout about its FC, the mileage is really respectable.

For maintenance-wise, I am not in the position to give my opinion as I have only gone through its first servicing.  Through hearsay it is higher than the Japanese/Korean bread-and-butters due to maintenance required for its drivetrain - which again, is to be expected due to its AWD feature.

Another area that could blindside you is the insurance.  Subaru seems to be a lightning rod for insurance companies - generally in the range of $100 - $200 more per annum, at least for my case.

My take is to do your research, evaluate where your priorities lie - be it in space, economy, performance, safety or badge - and commit with your eyes open.

Happy hunting.

I manage to get about 350-400km for 1/2 tank....

Comparison on AD maintenance packages for b and b brands which you can find on the Internet - Subaru not the most expensive, also not cheapest, in between.

But now that legally can go outside workshop without voiding warranty, then go outside cheaper.  If want shops specialise in Subaru, there is BKS, BMS etc.

Subarus have reputation of robustness - so hopefully less repair costs.  You have to remember it is part owned by Toyota.
