Fuzzylogic 2nd Gear December 14, 2011 Share December 14, 2011 I just changed to a set of Hankook Ventus V12 today at the Toh Guan branch. Got a pretty good deal for the 235/45 R17 size as they were a slightly older DOM batch which they were clearing stock. Chin, the supervisor there was not pushy and was honest in his assessment of older tyres describing their downsides. However, they did not have the S1 or RS2 with the size I wanted so decided to give it a go given the price offered. Besides that, I was very impressed by the professionalism of the staff at that branch. They took great care in installing my new rims which I brought along ensuring they weren't scratched in the process. Utilising the $55 discount to change my 2.5 yr old battery, they did it the old school way with the engine on to ensure that the radio settings are retained and the ECU wasn't reset. The same can't be said for some other tyre shops out there. Overall it was a very pleasant experience and kudos to the team there. I would definitely go back for a tyre change when the current set wears out. As a side note, my initial impression of the V12 do seem pretty grippy in wet weather in comparison to the RE001 which I was on previously. But I guess the tyres have not been fully scrubbed in yet so it would not be fair to draw any conclusions this early. ↡ Advertisement
Detach8 5th Gear December 14, 2011 Share December 14, 2011 Hankook tyres are grippy, but they also wear out quickly and get noisy once it goes above 10,000kms. I had the ventus prime (is that the V12?) on my old ride. Switched it out for GR-90 which was much better in terms of comfort.
Eepchuan 1st Gear December 14, 2011 Share December 14, 2011 I had the totally opposite experience. My last set of tyres was Bridgestone GR-90 and they wore out by 35,000km. Now I am back to Hankook Optimo.

But Ventus Prime and V12 are more for performance than quiet and comfort which the GR-90 is. But i can't say for sure if wet weather road holding is good for the GR-90 though looking at the thread design and its pretty costly as well.

Dldm Neutral Newbie December 15, 2011 Share December 15, 2011 Optimo very lasting as comfort tyres. performance tyres usually wear faster due to need for grip.

Ingen Neutral Newbie December 15, 2011 Share December 15, 2011 Agreed on their service, the only shop that bothers to explain and share knowledge of tyre wear and tear and what to look out for. I wasn't even buying from them before as they did not have the size I need. Eventually I went to them to do alignment after I changed a new set of rims. Good service received so far. Fcw75 Hypersonic December 15, 2011 Share December 15, 2011 (edited) I do not think it's a good idea to leave the engine running while changing the battery. They should have a device that can be plug into your power socket to power the car so as to prevent loss of radio and ECU settings. Please correct me if I am wrong. Zenith_Mazda Clutched December 15, 2011 Share December 15, 2011 Yea, u r right. they dont leave the engine on. Did a batt change with them. They connect to a device that have saved charge to the + - wires then change the batt out. I think the device acted as a temp batt to retain the ecu. Love their workmanship and professionalism! A Warning message from my Uncle Car owner manual DO not disconnect the battery clamps from the battery terminals while the engine is running This Could (just could) serverly damage electronic components (the Generator for example) Always refer to your car owners manual about the battery replacement (they clearly stated the Do and Dont) you are taking a costly risk by changing battery with engine running. what the the problem for re setting your Radio station ? ↡ Advertisement
