Escksu Clutched December 11, 2011 Share December 11, 2011 When I step on the accelerator and leg go there is some popping noise. Any idea why is there a popping noise? There is no engine check light though. Did a search on youtube and other Satria Neos that have after market exhaust seems to have this popping noise as well. Is there a defect or something? ↡ Advertisement
macrosszero Turbocharged December 11, 2011 Share December 11, 2011 Is yours an aftermarket exhaust?
Escksu Clutched December 11, 2011 Author Share December 11, 2011 Yes, its aftermarket exhaust. It only happens after I install the exhaust. Then it also appears to have smoke as well (its from a cold start). Could it be due to condensation or something?

macrosszero Turbocharged December 11, 2011 Share December 11, 2011 May be several issues, one is that an aftermarket (free-er flowing) exhaust doesn't flow exhaust gases like the stock one, so when you suddenly cut the throttle, there's interruption in the smooth flow of gases, or you might have done something to your engine management or O2 sensors, otherwise as stock the engine shouldn't run rich just because you changed the exhaust pipe. You might have done something to the catalytic converters also......

Yellowrx8 Clutched December 11, 2011 Share December 11, 2011 For exhaust white smoke, Check ur engine oil... if its decreasing, chance is either one of the piston rings loose, engine compression of the piston running low... Mechanic will say engine "eat" the engine oil, tat why got white smoke. Best is go for a engine compression test... Earli detection may help u save alot... If piang ur engine, then more headache... "white exhaust smoke" is really water turned into steam. Water can be from condensation in the air when we first started the engine. If it is continous "white exhaust smoke" the water in the engine cooling system has leaked into the combustion chamber (gasket leaks). Only Mess-chanic will say engine "eat" the engine oil, that why got white smoke. If there is excessive engine wear, a bluish exhaust smoke can be observed. Meanwhile, the engine consumed more engine oil and needs topping up frequently.

Well, based on my past problems i had on my car, it did have white smoke(Not bluish smoke) coming out from the exhaust every morning after a yr of hard driving. Did observe a drop in my engine oil & suspect something wrong with the engine. But continue to drive until 1 fine day it stall repeatedly. Lucky still can drive to the workshop, Did a compression test, and found 1 piston pressure way below mark. Found the Spark plug at tat piston also have some abnormal at the tip. No choice but to do overhaul, took out the fault piston and found out there is slight scratch on it. Juz to share my experience, but its wise to do a check on the engine compression. But after driving the car to work, no more smoke during idle.
Tcx607 4th Gear December 12, 2011 Share December 12, 2011 Hi YellowRx8>> Can recommend the workshop of engine compression test? What is the damage $$$ My FD2A also need to top up engine oil every mth approx 300ml. I am not sure if the K20 engine characteristic is like that. Now, I try to use thicker oil 5-50W instead of 0-40W. It shows a little improvement in oil consumption still top up 150ml/mth. Occasionaly (once in 3mth), will drive in NS hitting top speed (paper spec)
Escksu Clutched December 12, 2011 Author Share December 12, 2011 You might want to do a leak down test instead. Its more accurate than compression test.
Good-Carbuyer 1st Gear December 12, 2011 Share December 12, 2011 Driving above cruising speed in crease both fuel and engine oil consumption. You may be aware that crusing speed is usually lower than maximum speed. ↡ Advertisement
