HOUSENUMBER Neutral Newbie December 6, 2011 Share December 6, 2011 Bro, you can wait long long for them to abolish road tax. I foresee an additional CO2 tax on top of the usual road tax. Maybe there might be some rebate for cleaner cars but you can be sure end up we will still pay more. i couldn't agree more on this ↡ Advertisement
Happily1986 5th Gear December 6, 2011 Share December 6, 2011 Wah like that if based on the data in the NEA website my car (a 1.5l Allion) might need to pay more tax than a 1.6 altis??? Toyota Allion (my current car) combined CO2 186g/km Toyota Corolla Altis combined CO2 161g/km http://els.nea.gov.sg/mfels/vehicle.asp not surprising given that Toyota has tweaked the powerplant meant for the Altis 1.6 to be compliant with EURO IV standards. Mikael74 Neutral Newbie December 7, 2011 Author Share December 7, 2011 i couldn't agree more on this Sadly this is most likely the case, hybrid and diesel owner pay less will have very little impact to them since these form a very small minority of car owners (maybe less than 5%?) Mikael74 Neutral Newbie December 7, 2011 Author Share December 7, 2011 I found a link that gives details on UK carbon based road tax system, this may give some hints as to how our own new roadtax system might be like Every increase of 10g/km of CO2 is a different category http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Ownin...cle/DG_10012524
Mustank Hypersonic December 7, 2011 Share December 7, 2011 (edited) What about Taxi uncles leaving their taxi on during makan ? They generate alot more CO2/hr than average users. Best is abolish road tax, then raise the petrol prices. You use more petrol, you pay more. Simple as that... whoa!!!! this one i SARPORK!!!!v 1 guy may own a super pollutive euro 1 diesel engine or Henry Ford's 1st car but never drive out and machiam treat as musuem piece and drive out only once a week to maintain engine: VS another guy who uses an hybrid car who uses 24 hrs a day: Confirm the hrbrid guy pollutes more! Neost 6th Gear December 7, 2011 Share December 7, 2011 (edited) Before doing anything else, if the authority is serious able curbing CO2 emission, please go to all petrol kiosk and sermmon all the vehicles with engine on and driver nowhere to be seen. Taxi drivers are especially guilty. Edited December 7, 2011 by Neost
Tom_kkh 1st Gear December 7, 2011 Share December 7, 2011 (edited) they only promise us no GST increase, never promise all freeze... they also have to recoup the loss in not increasing GST for the next 5 years, so........ Cars08 1st Gear December 7, 2011 Share December 7, 2011 I remember in Taiwan they have this rule...all engine must be turn off if kept at a stationary position for more than 10 mins..but given that Taiwan weather at times can be much better than Singapore... wondering if this is workable... Mikael74 Neutral Newbie December 7, 2011 Author Share December 7, 2011 not surprising given that Toyota has tweaked the powerplant meant for the Altis 1.6 to be compliant with EURO IV standards. I just realised these figures are forthe 2010 model which has dual vvti engines as opposed to the old single vvti engine my car has, that may explain why the CO2 emissions are lesser
Mingsect 5th Gear December 7, 2011 Share December 7, 2011 seems like Whatever uk implement,, it's only a matter of time singapore follow. the cameras along the street double decker buses, bendy buses.. now tax based on emmission

Vhtfhwlego Supercharged December 8, 2011 Share December 8, 2011 Easy, just send you a letter requesting that you book a date with Vicom for emission testing. When it is new compared with old... When it is well maintained and one that dont. When the day is cool vs hot day. So many many questions needs to be answered before they start such tax. I would think that if the old cars need to go for emission test, it would be very hard to get good emission figures More so if got mod exhaust

Some good new cars are scaped due to the "COE Taxation" systems when old cars are running around polluting... Then now, changes in road tax to "curb" carbon foot prints.... I pity those COE car owners if that these will take place. I pity those "green" cars owners that they sold their cars before they can take advantage...
