Other countries' presidents have to be corrupt so that they can save enough for themselves once they step down, and those kenna caught one are shamed and put on trial. Our president song song take millions of tax payers money that is enough to last him and his family through many generations, and dun need to be corrupt coz he is a millionaire many times over liao. What the other presidents accumulate through illegal means, our former president accumulate through legal means for dunno doing what for 12 years. Uniquely Singapore!!

actually, the role of the president is written very clearly in the constitution, what he can do on his own, what he can do only with the permission of the cabinet, what he must do as a matter of procedure. just that a lot of people create noise and smoke to confuse and mislead that president can do whatever he wants, and that's very irritating.

 

especially during presidential elections, when even tan kin lian says wanna give $1,500 to every NSF. gosh, why not bother reading the constitution before running! the presidency is not designed for him to do such things.

 

for the record, the 5 key areas of presidential powers are:

guarding reserves (no ultimate discretion)

public service appointments (no ultimate discretion)

CPIB investigations (can override PM)

MRHA detentions (tie-breaking decision)

ISA detentions (tie-breaking decision)
