some coe cars could well have more power to weight ratios than certain prevailing models on the roads. don't let the thinking of new is always better delude you.

assuming the car is well maintained lah. if some of the horses are lost due to lack of proper maintenance then it is another story. [:p]

Many donkey years back, I have driven a 1 litre almost 10-yr old toyota startlet with 4 adults without problem. Just that certain part have to down to 2nd gear and move up slowly (dun rev too much).

Just make sure your cooling system and fan is working properly, that's very important.

Was wondering, can a 1.3 or 1.6 manual toyota, honda or mit that is 13 year old be able to climd up to genting highland??

If you have an old Volvo GL 740, then you will have problem going up Genting, because my bil had this car long

time ago and he got problem going up. He had to unload all his passengers and only he then can drove up very

slowly and revving high.

If you can drive to the foot Genting from Singapore, you will probably going to get up there.

Even a donkey can climb Genting given enough time [laugh] but there is nothing to see there anymore. Have to fork out 70-90 rm just to go outdoor theme park....WTH!

Cool weather is good for this Lada, else will overheat. :D

You used to see Lada and Skoda in smokes in the 90's right? It may be lao yah in Sunny Singapore, but in Russia feaking cold weather, it could be the only car fit to travel around. [laugh]

Actually not so bad lah....my friend own one who drove it for a good 7-8 years before the car died on him completely....

During this period...he had min breakdowns actually...I still remember his car cos we covered the Stanley Ho opening of rest in SG....got Andy Lau...was working under contract for the PR company that handle that account...had to run here and there the whole day and the car never gave us problem at all....

Really? My dad had this model before. Drove up to bukit Fraser n genting before no prob. Just slower at e steep slopes. First drove that car when I got my license some 14 yrs ago. Powerful car but main power kicks in aft 100 kmh. Like my w124.

TS, don't worry abt Coe cars. As long as maintained properly, will be able to make it. Me n my 20 yr old w124 have been up to Cameron, genting, Ipoh, etc without prob. But like bros said, got to monitor temp. Also make sure e water hoses are not hardened or steam may escape when temp goes up.

maybe my reply is late but definitely can.

i have seen it by my own eyes.

just see those MY plate cars like the old Proton Saga also drive up.

actually the driving up to Genting is not that tough, just a little steeper and many turns.

most important are a set of good brakes and a set of good tyres.

Any car going up should be no problem. TS should be more concerned with coming down. Engine brake will not help. You still need brake as car will pick after speed even with engine brake.

Fully agree with you on the coming down part. Not all cars, especially the auto one, have speed-hold function. If one is not careful he can easily fry his brake pads or boil his brake fluid especially if they are not in good condition.

I do not see the big fuss of small cars going up dry mountains like the ones in SEA. Only when the car have to stop in the middle of a incline, in heavy rain, than it can be tricky. Its probably more important to have traction control, & the right tires IMO, especially going up Alpine Mountains.

Even if you have a powerful car with lots of torque, but its useless, if the wheels just spin on the spot, .......before going backwards.
