Neutralsg 5th Gear December 20, 2011 Share December 20, 2011 SPF has been trying to tackle that problem since the mid 90s. They gave out tons of leaflets in many different India's dialect and stationed PO along the roads to summon and direct traffic plus getting all those who were blocking the pavements to move along. In about 1 hr, all the leaflets ran out but the people still kept coming in waves. PTF even drove their Command Vehicle onto one of their favourite gathering fields and used PA system to ask them to disperse. This had been going on for several years. How I know......'cos I was one of the POs assigned during these operations...... I believed you. Therefore, is it left status quo since you said that action to tackle the problem was put in place since mid 90s? Apparently, the problem has aggravated in view of far greater number of foreigners in Singapore today than the 90s. Hence, I would ask the powers that be: a) Should we wait for the problem to go away naturally? or b) Should we allow Singapore to rot because we cannot get the offenders to follow the law? or c) How can we solve this problem? d) What can be done to minimise if not eradicate this problem? IMO, even if it takes a certain time frame to contain and subsequently resolve the problem, then concerted and relentless efforts are required by the police force who are empowered to maintain law and order in Singapore. If we allow such a situation to continue and worse, expand, then Singapore will see more problems in the future. If punitive measures must be implemented, so be it since it will likely receive support from majority Singapore citizens who are used to punitive laws. Perhaps, the government should consider the following for foreigners: a) 1st & 2nd offence - warning b) 3rd & 4th offence - fine & warning that their work permits will be revoked c) beyond 4th offence, revoke their work permit and bar them from coming If words spread among the foreigners who realised that Singapore laws are no longer to be taken for granted, it may well spread like wild fire and inevitably address the problem. Otherwise, such problem can become unruly if there should be a mishap which escalates to mob incidents. Just my 2 cents. ↡ Advertisement
Lowrider 2nd Gear December 20, 2011 Share December 20, 2011 (edited) Hidding to catch speeding vehicles r act of cowardice. Sometimes i wonder r they.police or thieve. Why must HIDE to catch people. Was once travelling at TPE outside punggol area. Saw a tp standing on overhead bridge on opposite side of the expressway taking speed of vehicle from behind. I think this is a very very low down cheap skate kind of act by a person from a uniforM grp. why must behave like a thief. I second that! Police should be clearly seen when he's registering the traffic speed so people will slow down, instead of jam brake due to panic and can cause accident. After all, TP presence there is to slow people down, right? Not to play hide and catch! Edited December 20, 2011 by Lowrider ↡ Advertisement
