I don't understand this: If Q1=N,Q2=Y, then why are you in lane 1? Ditto for the jokers in front and behind you. All are road hoggers. Full stop.

But I agree with the rest.

 

Reason is Lane 2 clear means no cars to overtake. So why are all the cars in the overtaking lane?

JUST USE COMMON SENSE LA.

 

People tailgate you, if safe to give way then give way; i don't bloody care what that bugger is up to. what emergency la dunno wat la. he is still a tailgating bugger to me and i don't need a silly person like this following my butt so i will "siam" him as early as i can.

 

People tailgate you, not safe to give way and you are already around 100 then just keep at it and don't let the bugger pressure you to go faster cos end up you skid and run up the center divider the blood on the road will be yours, not his.

 

THAT'S MY DRIVING PHILOSOPHY!

 

what ego not ego. don't care la. just drive. people got big ego is their problem. they "chut" stun show off their ego i get angry for what. just imagine them as nincompoops and let them have their way la.

erm, of course don't be a silly bugger yourself and road hog la. if you go lane 1 then be daring a bit la.

Even in Thailand/China/Msia highway/India, cars coming close onto slower cars and basic mannerism is slower cars will give way - tailgating is a sign of overtaking intentions. There is nothing really wrong but the hogger who doesn't give way.

tailgating is quite dangerous really, esp. at high speeds. so it's really the onus of the car in front to take initiative.

 

sometimes on CTE i see car coming from behind at great speed towards me i will just filter and give way when he's still many car lengths away...

 

SO... JUST BE NICE AND GIVE WAY WHEN YOU CAN, DON'T ROAD HOG, AND DON'T ANYHOW TAILGATE FOR FUN.

Tailgating situation is quite common in singapore, personally i have been tailgated for no apparent reason many times, even a kangoo once.

 

Would like to know other than the ego thing, why do people tailgate?

 

If in front of me no car then this joker keep tailgating me should i just slam my brake and claim a new bumper?

 

Is it because they are too rich and too much time on hand and cant wait to create a accident?

 

Will i be rejected for a insurance claim if a joker tailgate me and i slam on my brake (scared ma) with no car in front of me?

 

I figured out that if someone want to play tailgate means he/she is ready to pay for accidental damages right.

 

 

In front of you no car then u just need to give way and let the tailgater overtake. Meaning the person behind is in a hurry or you are road hogging. Both u and the tailgater will get demerit points. U got it for road hogging tailgater got it for tailgating.

i think road hoggers refuse to give way due to the following:

 

1. First-come-first-serve thinking: I got into this 'position' (as if F1) first and since you are behind me you follow

2. Ego: well..enough said..

3. Lane 1=Good car syndrome: Some low esteemed drivers think being in lane 1 (usually for FASTer vehicles) means the car is good...able to go fast etc

4. Not utilizing or looking into the rear-view mirror

 

from my own experience..those who drive bigger cars tend to be a bit more courteous. They usually dont road-hog and will usually cruise along in lane 2 at their leisure pace. Unless they're rushing etc they are usually the tailgate culprits..haha

this morning, a fast honda over took me and speed .

i was on lane 1 doing 80-100.

he speed up at lane 3-4.

 

when i see teh white car infront, i quickly join the Q to be the fourth car.

 

until the fast honda almost went past the white WRX, he quickly jam brake and slow down!

i laugh so hard!

then everyone who try to over took me and when they saw the white WRX, every one stay behind me.

no on dare over take the whote WRX in the morning!

Suddenly this car from lane 2 (about 5 diagonally meters behind) cut into lane 1 and accelerate to 1 meter behind me.. This is plain reckless and inconsiderate .. I would have give him a bl.o.o.dy nose for endangering me and my families' life..

 

When someone blocks my way one lane 1, I normally will keep a safe distance and close up slowly (over 10 secs drive time perhaps) to signal that he is blocking my way. If he still want to hog the lane, I will cut on lane 2 and move on with my drive.. Nobody's hurt.

the car behind can tailgate, flash high beam, horn, point middle finger, throw water bomb or ram into the car in front....

 

the drivers' choice... he is also at risk of crashing into the car in front due to e brake by the car in front...

 

 

for the car in front, he can choose to endure all the above or give way or jam brake....

 

whats the point of discussing when all are adults and will need to be responsible for own actions??????????????

You are absolutely right!

 

So if no road hoggers, there will be no tailgaters and no silly chain collision on highway

 

and we can all enjoy lower insurance fee.

 

I now see that road hoggers cause so many problems.

U r nt talking within the matter of the guy who shared his story... Road hogging is bad but tailgating is equally bad... I guess road manners r very impt n if you wan ppl to treat u w respect then show some consideration.. If you can bash your car thru me, by all means lol... bear in mind u r nt the only person that can afford to change car.. Not only will I change car, I will sue u until your pants drop.. Im merely quoting jam brake in his context and it is not applicable to all situation dude.. read with comprehension and not assumption...I would think it would be silly for motorists to take it literally and pls..if you can drive you have certain level of maturity... I have zero tolerance for immature behaviour on the road...

 

Give and take. Singapore road how fast you can drive? Full of traffic lights and camera. For me i will just drive within the speed limit. If car behind me drive very fast on the expressway at outer most lane i will just give way to them. After that i will just move back to the lane to overtake when needed do.

 

But on small roads like single lane, i hate being taigated. Especially got a few road humps down the road and cars in front of me (about 2 car length) and the car behind me just high beam and try to over take me. What is this "baka" thinking. Brains keep at home forget to bring out?

 

Side track a bit - Car park issue. While driving towards mine parking lot(single lane on each side), a car on the opposite is driving towards me. This CHAMPION (behind me) drive fast and want to overtake me just in order to grab the lot. Since he want it, i slow down but the opposite car already drove very near so the CHAMPION jam brake and high beam also point middle finger to me. When i see from the side mirror this CHAMPION from the looks only 20+. And with a few of this friends. So after i park mine car and this CHAMPION get out of car want to come over. Once i step out of the car and waited there for him to come. He turn around. WTF. Why, got ball to high beam and point middle finger but no balls to talk face to face. You are in the wrong and still act like CHAMPION.

 

So nowadays some drivers at young age drive big cars as if there the king of the road. Without mutual respect to other drivers and road users KAMA will soon be back to them.
