Vinil 1st Gear December 1, 2011 Share December 1, 2011 Hi all, just curious what is the maximum fuel you managed to pump in to your fuel tank . Is it more than the capacity of your tank or same as your capacity ? Does it do any harm if you fill up more than the capacity written in the manual ? Appreciate your friendly comments . ↡ Advertisement

Erm, its actually simple physics. If you have a bottle and fill the bottle to the brim with water, it be difficult to drink from it due to the amount of space available for air to go in is small or none. If you fill your gas to the brim, lucky thing fuel tanks have an air hole. The bad thing is if you fill it too much, everytime when you accelerate, gas will spill from your air hole which in some sort might be dangerous. You injector might also have problem extracting the fuel properly which results in poor acceleration at time.
Ctng Neutral Newbie December 1, 2011 Share December 1, 2011 i've saw ppl pump until the petrol keep flowing out of the car and the driver faster close back the cap hahaha. very interesting.
GoodCar 4th Gear December 1, 2011 Share December 1, 2011 You may flood the carbon canister which is part of the emission control system........polluting the air and wastting more fuel.

Monoswift Clutched December 1, 2011 Share December 1, 2011 why need fill until so full if you are refilling in SG? if JB i nuthin to say cause go in need 3/4 tank, people sure try to squeeze as much cheap fuel as possible in... lol... i believe they put the sensor thingy to auto stop refilling is for a reason..but wat reason i dunoe.. usually auto stop liao i just squeeze in abit more to round the litre up for FC calculation.. Boyboy 1st Gear December 1, 2011 Share December 1, 2011 I always pump to the brim. habit since JB pumping petrol days. I find it the most accurate way of calculating FC. by ensuring constant fuel level each time i top up (to the brim mah) Also, the few hundred mils (actually it's more like 2-3 liters if u count from the auto cut-off) allows me to go at least a few more km between pumps. in the long run, save a bit ba.. I'm not advocating this act. some say it's no good but so far in my 3-4 years of doing this I have seen no ill-effects whatsoever. my fc also pretty decent, so i doubt there's any leakage
GPunto Neutral Newbie December 1, 2011 Share December 1, 2011 i managed to squeeze extra 10L after the pump auto-stop, and still yet to see petrol overflow for a 45L tank, 10L is like 20% already!! then for the next 100-150km, the needle never move at all

Contrary to the strange analogies with a human stomach and weird speculation about things like emission control and injectors, there is nothing wrong with that other than that it may spill out when you're pumping or screwing on the cap. To simplfy the entire process: 1) When you pump fuel, it goes into a tank. 2) To get to the engine, a high pressure electrical pump in the tank sucks up the fuel and pushes it via the fuel lines to the injectors. 3) The injectors then spray the fuel into the cylinder where it gets mixed and compressed with air. 4) The mixture is ignited by the sparkplugs, and the waste gas is shoved out through the exhaust ports. You injector might also have problem extracting the fuel properly which results in poor acceleration at time. The fuel gets to the engine via a pump, and when you screw on the cap, the tank becomes semi-air tight (in addition to this, there is usually a flapper valve in the refuel piping that runs to the tank). There is a pressure release valve in the cap that allows air in, however it is set below atmospheric pressure, thus once your pump starts running, there will be negative pressure in the tank regardless of fuel levels.
