Why even doctors commit offences?

what about those having sex in clinics, selling cough mixtures, sleeping pills, overcharging patients, molesting patients etc....

I don't know I questioned the integrity of doctors in the other thread and kena whacked left right centre although I was joking....

On a serious note, I think it's all a question of integrity and money, alot of people will conmmit fraud with the lure of money, takes alot of integrity and moral epitome not to be swayed, not everyone is like me and see money as an end to a mean and will never cheat money for personal gain...so it's not a matter of being a doctor, a lawyer, a banker although many people like to chastised these professions but we also see it in the public sector and even charity

Dishonesty - in Cleaner = patrons leaving the table and he wipe table saw 50cts on table, take and put in pocket.

Dishonesty - to a Professional lawyer = client give cheque of $10mil, take cash it and absconded.

So which is the lesser of the 2 evils ?

You've got a point: both are dishonest, but the impacts are not the same [:(]

maybe not 100% comparable: one started by the dinner's carelessness, the other by the client's misplaced trust.

I do feel that the lawyer sells his service relying partly on giving his client the impression that he's trustworthy. The clearner only by his ability to clean up, his trustworthiness may not play a part as important as that expected of a lawyer

if a doc cheats at the expense of the well being / health of his patients, this is VERY VERY serious..... :o

I think it is a very grey area, if a doctor prescipces sleeping pills, subputex, etc for his patient, knowing it may not be really good for him but doesn't go against medical ethnics but can earn him good money, is this cheating? well better not say too much before I kena whacked again...

Doctors are the best! They are the pillars of morality and our society....one bad hat does not mean the whole industry is bad

It is funny how money changes things, even for doctors. This is especially true for private practice where "the sky is the limit".

Of course the ones in public hospitals do their corner-cutting, or over-cutting and and scare tactics too, not to mention milking the 100-200% surcharging system. But in private, doctors become businessmen. They hire more nurses to "process" more patients, they advertise themselves as being able to do procedures which they see other doctors making a killing in, they now sell all kinds of products and even branding these products with their own house brands.

Physicians, on seeing surgeons earn big surgery bucks, also raise their fees and prescribe medication that gives them good margins. Surgeons, seeing physicans charging more, in turn raise their surgical fees to maintain their lead. Plus now doctors can see other doctors' holiday photos in Facebook... So why is my family in Bintan when his family is having great fun on the Alps or scuba diving in French Polynesia?

I don't know. Maybe it is just me but I am quite disappointed with most doctors I meet these days, more so in those whom I used to know to be good people.

Codes of conducts etc are man-made (one of my favourite terms), if the doctor knows the medicine is not good for the client long term, even if the codes allow him to prescribe it, he still owes the patient the duty of care ..... this is how I look at it, the medical industry may have a different view [:(]

Honestly, these are my sentiments too, not that they are bad, but I don't see the passion in their jobs which is treating and caring for patients, anyway there are doctors in this forum, perhaps they beg to differ. But I don't blame them because when I go hospitals what I see is all their branded cars and tatler magazines in their clinics.

It is very hard to prove duty of care, my favourite topic in TORT Law, all I can say is do things with a conscience.....anyway I also studied pull push factors for fraud...pull factors such as seeing your frens and neighbours driving 911 and Maserati, push factors such as running into financial problems though gambling etc....yes....sabbie is actually a very sensible and knowledgable guy.

LOL.... some of us know it all along... :D

End of the day, it's a question of whether the doc still has his conscience intact... :o

For TS infor, if he had not met enough ppl yet in his life, the worst type of ppl with twisted moral coupled with supposed professional creditials are the lawyers followed by doctors and financial advisors or simply bankers...

The above group of ppl even beat the insurance and property agents to the infamous list..

Even the lowly Ah Beng mechanic or air-con service man fared much better....

As for undertakers, they just fall right below your mechanics and salesperson group of questionable moral types of ppl....

Interesting question is where do ppl of religious standing fare?

Well, for starters if one were not to believe in such ding dong, you won't care less as to how this group fare in the moral dept, would you? :D

I think tomorrow Sunday times is covering a story about some good doctors, so hopefully we can get our faith back, to be fair being greedy is human nature, just that we are more critical of doctors as the general public has high expectations of them as our moral compass, today's ST forum full of complains on them though
