Melvinnn Neutral Newbie November 25, 2011 Share November 25, 2011 Hi guys, anyone have any experiences on renewing insurance after total loss ? I've claimed a total loss from my own insurance at about 70k. I'm looking to buy another car now, but my concerns are whether any insurance co will take me ? My previous policy was done in this manner. A has no valid driving license, A is the owner. B is named driver. C (which is me) driving the vehicle at that point of time, which is claiming total loss. If buying another car, will insurance for all A, B, C be affected ? Can A still be the owner ? Or probably no insurance co will accept ? Anyone has any experiences or great info to share ? Please advise, thanks in advance! ↡ Advertisement
Pippo20 Neutral Newbie November 26, 2011 Share November 26, 2011 The owner of the insurance policy will bear all the additional loading..
SimonTan 2nd Gear November 26, 2011 Share November 26, 2011 Better just ask first before buying the car!
Melvinnn Neutral Newbie November 26, 2011 Author Share November 26, 2011 so in this case B and C will not be affected?
Naruto13 Clutched November 26, 2011 Share November 26, 2011 ur case seems complicated. if a non driver can "cover" the loading, everyone can be a name driver of the non driver to get a cheaper rate. somehow depending how the insurance tag the loading. only industry player/insurance agent might know. buying resale vehicle? maybe find some online insurance agent and seek their advise and obtain quote too. Wreckwrx 1st Gear November 26, 2011 Share November 26, 2011 A will get hit the worst.... C can expect some loading if u try to register a car. Only B is safe.
Naruto13 Clutched November 26, 2011 Share November 26, 2011 A will get hit the worst.... C can expect some loading if u try to register a car. Only B is safe. if base on example, just register car under B name and drive under unamed driver. provided C is not young or P plate, if not excess is above 2k. anyway C is a risk base on the claim already. Melvinnn Neutral Newbie November 26, 2011 Author Share November 26, 2011 hmm but C is the driver.. so if C intends to get a car under his own name.. will his premiums be astonishing high ? anyone with experiences of total loss and get another car's insurance, how badly affected is the premium ? Csyip Neutral Newbie February 1, 2012 Share February 1, 2012 Sorry to hijack and revive this old thread. I'm ashamed to admit my own car got totalled by own damage, whack against wall. Now I'm getting another car but is not sure if any insurance company will take me, and if they do, how much premium they will charge? My total loss claim is at $51k. Any experienced ones can share some knowledge?

Jefkking Clutched February 1, 2012 Share February 1, 2012 Premium can range from S$ 12K to S$ 20K depends on :- (Have client claimed before for about S$ 80K for total lost & his next ride was S$ 16K premium- Civic 2.0M) - aged of drivers / owner - occupation of owner - last claimed amount & risk concerned - model & type & market value of intend to purchase car etc
Yardo Clutched February 1, 2012 Share February 1, 2012 I believe the cause of the total loss also will be looked into. If the loss was caused by reckless or drink driving, the premium will relatively be higher.
Matchy Neutral Newbie February 2, 2012 Share February 2, 2012 it is a urban legend that after total loss will increase the premium by alot... the threshold is $30k and subsequently each $30k increment
SGCMmaomao 6th Gear February 2, 2012 Share February 2, 2012 A will get hit the worst.... C can expect some loading if u try to register a car. Only B is safe. Not true, cos at the point of time A was not the driver. So he/she dose not need to declare anything. C can buy car, he can choose not to declare this claim but if there's anything happen...again..the insurance company can throw his case out wo compensation.
