Horrible From D*r*ct *sia insurance.

I am sorry as I am unable to start a new topic.

 

I have bought car insurance from Direct A$i@ early this year, which include Loss of Use benefits, to be exact, $50 for each day of loss of use due to an accident, maximum 10 days per accident and maximum 20 days a year. The insurance covers commuting to work and personal use.

 

My car was knocked by a taxi three weeks ago.

 

I have sent my car to one of their approved workshop for the repairs under Own Damage, while pursuing third party damage.

 

I have left my car in the workshop for the repairs on 16 Nov (Wednesday) and collected the car on 22 Nov (Tuesday).

 

Direct A$i@ had contacted me recently and offer to reimburse me, the loss of use benefits at $50 per day, $250 in total for five days only (Wed, Thurs & Fri, Mon and Tues), Saturday and Sunday was excluded.

 

At first, they told me, car at workshop waiting for spare parts is not entitled for loss of use benefits, and that would include Saturday and Sunday too... no entitlement.

 

I have studied through the policy in detail and there is no such express explanation on "loss of use"that it does not cover waiting time for spare parts and weekends. I have therefore asked them to clarify in writing to me: why (I will post the reply from them once i have received it from them).

 

I have asked them to consider various scenario, the policy does not cover weekends? as the benefit exclude Weekends. Does that mean, Direct A$i@ expecting me not using the car during weekends and Public Holiday?

 

Brother and sister, I humbly asked for your advice and comment on this as I felt it was unfair.

 

For people who had opted for the same benefits, please make sure you do not send your car for repair over long weekends and especially your spare parts need days before available at the workshop for the repairs, even your car was a total wreck. As Direct A$i@ will not cover for your loss of use over weekends, public holidays and while waiting for spare parts (pray hard the spare parts are not imported from Japan, Thailand or Europe).

 

Approved workshop is only 5working days (mon-fri)....just my lame answer...pls post what they have to say.

Looks that way. And some people who accuse some other people of twisting logic into pretzels to criticise companies like DA (while themselves twisting common sense into Klein bottles in defence of DA) don't seem to have anything to say about this. Surprise, surprise. [rolleyes]

 

My stance is clear: Nickle-and-dime companies may try to get away with as much as they can at your expense. You can wax bombastic about your standard of English, and how savvy you are to have read that damn contract with a fine-tooth comb and all the smug self-assurance of your accumulated lay knowledge of law from years of ardently following L.A. Law, Ally McBeal and The Practice. But at the end of the day, companies like this are just smarter (or more devious) and they might find some obscure escape clause to avoid some or all of their commitments.

 

Is there a role for budget insurance companies? Yes, I think there is, but not in the sense that the proponents seem to be banging on about. As far as I'm concerned, these dirt-cheap policies are really only good if one never actually intends to make a claim. Drive damned carefully and if you're sway to kena a minor accident, just pay out of pocket. Let's face it - the only reason we have a niche in the ecosystem for bottom-feeders like these companies is because motor insurance is compulsory in Sillypore. Remove that requirement, and disband the GIAS cartel for good measure, and we'll see real customer-oriented and competitive service magically appearing overnight. But Sillypore has never been about consumer protection, right?

Yes, cheap but with comparable pitfalls. :D

Budget airlines can "put people aeroplane" by canceling the flight w/o notice......budget insurance companies can "put people aeroplane" by canceling the policy w/o warning.... [lipsrsealed][laugh]

Exactly. At least with the former, it's only the inconvenience and cost of a missed flight/cancelled trip. With the latter, it can be a bottomless pit of legal and financial liability.

For most of the insurance I have been with...NTUC included (notorious...but seems like there is a lagi infamous one around)...lost of use is inclusive of Sat and Sun....so what happen if you work on Sat ? Penny pinching IMHO.

 

Why don't you take it up to DA and ask them to point out to you the non claimable clauses....
