QQDreamer 4th Gear April 11, 2013 Share April 11, 2013 It's definitely more x than other ...mayb 20-30%.....but if can do an honest job why not. think each of his own. for you maybe u think you willing to spend. for others maybe not. for me, paying this kind of price where other outside workshop can do the same job at at a reasonable labour charge and workmanship i will not willing to pay so much for carrot price. If one think that the price is good by marking up 20-30% more why not go back to AD? ↡ Advertisement
Yanto Neutral Newbie April 11, 2013 Share April 11, 2013 Sharing my experience with them. Just went to the Changi workshop 2 weeks ago to do servicing, as it has been 6 months since the last one. The guy there told me a bit waste $ to do cos I have not covered 10k since the last servicing (I only drive short distance daily). Any bros here can shed advice if this is correct? Nonetheless, asked them to help me check my brake pads as the mechanic had reminded me about them in the last servicing. During the test drive, they help me troubleshoot that my left rear wheel bearing is worn and show me. (Spin the wheel and can feel the vibration compared to rear right wheel). Changed the front brake pads and the wheel bearing, total damage 400+. I dunno if that is expensive, but they also quoted me for engine mounting and when I checked with a person where many pple went to in the civic forums to change mounting, the price quoted is the same. Hi bro ... I guess u did check price with me prior you went to Autosaver. My nick in CivicFd is Yanto. Just to voice out your quote. I dont charge GST, I give bulk discount. Price quoted nett and job for engine mounting 30mins. Price quoted is initial unless you drive in and neg with me. Usually is cheaper than initial quote. Anyway, glad that you already done your stuff.. Enjoy your car =D Visit Facebook
Superhino 1st Gear April 11, 2013 Share April 11, 2013 Many ws mark.up the parts as high as 50 percent. Depending in the amount of the parts. And then charge labour again. Really slaughter. The worst part is that they will call u when u are away from their workshop telling u that your shock absorbers leaked oil, mounting pads damaged, brake pads thinning etc.... We sometimes have this fear that the workshop might deliberately damage the said items if we reject their offer to replace the parts. So, many unwary car owners will simply tell them to do so just to have the peace of mind. Take for my case recently at a ws at Blk.21 Sing Min Ind Est Sector A. I was coaxed into departing $1600 for changing the parts not related to a fault I told them to do . I was also told the brake pads were thinning and need replacement. Fortunately I did not spend more on this. Yesterday morning I went to another ws for regular servicing and specifically told the mechanic to check the brake pads. He told me nothing was wrong with the pads when I collected my car in the afternoon. Not sure if this forum allow us to put the names of such unethical workshops to warn ourselves. Then it's partly your fault for giving in. Be more street smart next time. And never walk away from your car. It is v ez for workshop to damage your parts and tell you that you need to change this and that. For example, the mech can take a screwdriver and start jabbing your air con fin coil a few dents...........
Superhino 1st Gear April 11, 2013 Share April 11, 2013 True, many of us doesnt know the pricing for those parts, when we change for certain parts and the mechanic just tell us the price and then we pay. So whether did they mark up or overcharge also dont know. An example like if you go to workshop to change headlight, even you need to pay $5-10 for the bulb you still need to pay. Unless you buy the bulb and change yourself. It's true that many of us do not know the price of the parts we intend to replace. Not too long ago I changed an OEM Xenon headlight bulb for $120/pc. I was then, is it a normal price to pay? Just curious.

As a car owner, you could take more interest in your car. Learn to read the brake pads. It's not difficult. Use a torch and shine on your pads. It usually has a backing plate and the pad material clearly delineated. If the pad material goes down to about a couple of mm left, it definitely needs replacement. Some workshop may think a 5 mm warrants replacement and tells you so. Another workshop may not think so and tells you no. So you may think the 1st workshop try to carrot you, but it's just their own opinion. Some workshop may not like the label of being a "carroter", so they just tell you, no need to change and become the "good guy" If you make your own decision on where to draw the line, you can decide who is trying to carrot you or sweet talk you. Mcf777 Turbocharged April 14, 2013 Share April 14, 2013 They order from stockist and delivered by motorbike. How much can that cost? It is like asking the courier service to deliver a document from a to z. Unless the ws is at a ulu place in tuas. Most of the ws are concentrated in ubi, sin ming n AMK where stockist are around the area.
Count-Bracula Twincharged July 18, 2014 Share July 18, 2014 Today went down to Toh Guan Autosaver to check out on a warning light which had been bugging me for almost 2 months. It is the exclamation mark within a circle. They were all busy working on 3 cars at the WS but nevertheless one of the mech went to check my car. Opened the bonnet and fiddled around and announced that my brake fluid was slightly below the minimum level and topped up for me. He asked me where I serviced my car and I pointed out to the Autosaver sticker on my windscreen. Okay he said "no charge" when I tried to pay him for the work done. Thank you, Autosaver. Much appreciated.
Sylvie Clutched October 8, 2014 Share October 8, 2014 So far I've always used AS for parts changes. Source my own parts, bring over there to change. Labour charges reasonable or cheap for some, expensive for other items. Do your homework. Parts that go through AS definitely with a mark up as they are a business too. So if you want the convenience and total warranty, be prepared to pay for it. Get a quote from AS, source from stockists and compare prices. Some items are cheaper at AS and some are not, but AS only uses OEM parts so it may be more expensive compared to stockist using compatiable items instead. Again it's up to you to do your homework. As with any WS you go to. Oil change, just source any outside ws if just oil and filter change and you using own oil. Great that you understand how WS do their business. I don't own a workshop but i'm from this industry. Take my quote as an example, If buying parts from stockist and then sending them to be installed at a WS becomes a norm (Lets put warranty aside should you buy from WS or Stockist), try buying your own noodles, fishball, mincemeat, prawns etc to your fav noodle stall and ask them to cook for you and rebate the total selling price. You'd be lucky you don't get poison in your food. One will only understand the situation if he/she puts themselves in their shoes.
Kidd25 Neutral Newbie February 4, 2016 Share February 4, 2016 Hi All, Personally i was very disappointed with them.I was a loyal customer for the past 9 years but maybe it's time to look for other workshop.Did my servicing and change water pump pulley and belt.As the belt was abit tight and screeching the next day when it was not warm up.I went back for them to adjust. To my horror, the mechanic accidentally damaged my radiator pipe and asked me to change the whole assembly as the pipe is connected to the assembly. They shown me the pipe that it was old and could be damaged easily. To cut the story short,i had no choice as i got other appointments in the afternoon. They still charged me labour and parts. Anyway it was not the first time, the newbies accidentally drained away my battery and i had to replace another during a servicing one year ago.Think enough is enough.By the way i service at their HQ in changi.
