you should ask yourself if you are a parent... will you put the emphasis on sports or education in SG

ask your parents why they never send you for sports training but send you to study instead

Agree. In Singapore, parents emphasize that kids show grow up to be future doctors, lawyers, engineers etc. We only emphasize on sports when we want our kids to go to top schools through schemes like DSA. But sports-career? Not a chance for most parents.

Why we failed in the sports scene where other countries with more or less the same population than us can succeed? Example is New Zealand.. population 4.4mil, their All Blacks are well known throughout the world.

Food for thought?

cos' increasing the GDP and reserves is more impt here

EXACTLY.. this paper qualifications focused society (partly Asian culture, partly govt's scholar-always-the-best policy) needs to change. If this don't change, we will never do well in sports..

I am not hoping them to be doctors or lawyers, I just want them to be able to fulfill the requirement to stand for president election. Not asking for much rite?

Yeah, all this bloody genius tuition classes should be banned, especially for pre-school age. Whatever so-called Baby Einstein, Baby Genius need to stop. Some fellow parents told me "if don't go, then the kids will not succeed in the future, cannot go to RI, RJ".. wah lau, 2-year old can already define success 20 years later.

i think i am doing pretty well for someone that did not go to these classes... lol

playing marbles, catching, pepsi cola, fighting spiders let me succeed..... :D

why govt?

why not the people's midset?

if you want something to change.. you got to change first.... if you can;t change.. how can you expect people or society to change?

The Singapore system will never churn out good sportsmanship.

education take center stage in our growing up years and going by this route brings a certain security to our children's future.

Sports is an unforgiving career as it only worships victory and the rest below goes into oblivion.

I'm sure for every Feng tianwei there are many others that went away unnamed.

No one in the sports fraternity can really show you your career path if you have no medals.

Maybe selling sports equipment and apparel in Sports link?

kids can still pursue their sport career or dream if they want PROVIDED the parents are rich enough to feed them for the rest of their life. So that they still have a roof and food on the table (sportman eat a lot :D ) .
