That makes the difference in Fuel Efficiency. I forbid myself going on the Right Hand Most Lane on the expressway until I have reached a certain speed, say between 90 and 100 KMH. As such, if drivers still find me slow, they are free to overtake me on the left.

Hmm....please try very hard to forbid yourself on Right Hand Most Lane at all times unless overtaking. That's the purpose of this Lane.

It is not for cruising between 90 and 100KMH and please dun road hog. It is not for cars to overtake you on the left.

Thank you for forbidding yourself in this manner. Those who need to take the right hand most lane will be grateful that you are practising this restraint. Kam sia many many.

Have a good weekend.

If you're cruising at the speed limit, why should anyone overtake you???

Bro, aren't you aware that the extreme right lane is for overtaking? Even if you are cruising at speed limit, you should not hog it all the way or stay in that lane even if at speed limit.

In crowded Singapore, the right lane is for all cars... really overtaking at speeds way over the speed limits is a no no... if you are an experienced driver, you will also know that the right lane of any road is full of vehicles... this isn't Europe or US or Oz where traffic is light and everyone can keep the rightmost lane full... in any case, at any time during the day, you really can't drive faster than the speed limits on any of the highways... it's just so full of cars... and they are all cruising along at highway speed limits... I don't see the need to overtake... if anyone drives at way below the speed limit, I just give a toot to let them know they're holding up traffic... most drivers will just move to the middle lane and cruise there at lower speeds...

No offense to any driver but basic theory states that right lane is for overtaking. Drivers have every right to cruise on the 1st lane at speed limit but as a form of courtesy it's really nice to make way for any cars approaching fast behind.

Hogger spotted ...and please change your mindset that its OK to think you are OK to cruise at that speed and expect those faster car to undertake you... Many are cursing such driver you know...

Precisely you need to give a toot for them to move to the middle lane unlike the brother who says too bad you will just overtake on his left.

That is the point I am highlighting. Dun let others overtake on the right most lane and too bad they have to do so on the left.

Anyways, personally I do not drive on the right most lane unless overtaking. And if I see a faster moving car approaching from the rear regardless of the speed I am travelling, I will as safely as possible move to the middle lane to allow it to pass. Because overtaking on the left is always more dangerous. You will also know this if you are an experienced driver.

Safe ride and happy Yuen Seow!

Overtaking on the left really depends on the road conditions... there's no absolute right or wrong with regards to that... as long as it is done safely...

Am sure you have seen signs that say "keep left unless overtaking".

Anyways I will stop my sharing here with this. But road hogs are getting common these days and thanks for helping me to see why it is so.

Road hogs are those who travel at way below the speed limits on any of three lanes... I think you need to revisit the meaning of road hog...

1) If you're travelling at 60 km/h on the middle right/left lane on a 4-lane highway, and there's a long line of cars behind you, are you road hogging? (90 km/h is the speed limit)

2) If you're travelling at 90 km/h on the rightmost lane on a 4-lane highway, and there's a long line of cars behind you, are you road hogging? (90 km/h is the speed limit)

3) If you're travelling at 100 km/h on the rightmost lane on a 4-lane highway, and someone comes up from behind at over 120 km/h, are you road hogging? (90 km/h is the speed limit)

4) If you're travelling on the leftmost lane at 80 km/h on a 4-lane highway, behind someone who's pottering away at 60 km/h, is that person considered to be road hogging? (90 km/h is the speed limit)

More questions:

1) What about peak hour traffic conditions? Does road hogging exist during these hours in bumper to bumper traffic when everyone is at about 60-70 km/h?

2) Ever considered if everyone is driving at the speed limit in procession, and you're the first car at the head of the line, are you road hogging?

3) Have you ever moved out of the rightmost lane thinking you're road hogging only to discover that no one zooms ahead of you, and that all along everyone behind you is not held up by your 90 km/h but just keeping their distance and to the speed limit?

Hey bro... life situations are infinitely more complicated than just whether the rightmost lane is for overtaking only... we have all certainly seen the signage that you mentioned... but what does that mean? Are you aware of anyone getting and get flagged for road hogging by the traffic police for driving at the speed limit on the rightmost lane? Wouldn't that be absolutely hilarious?
