Another maths question.

7 buses leave the bus interchange at equal intervals.

 

The first bus leaves at 8.30 am and the last bus leaves at 10.30am.

 

How long is each interval.

what i did was 120mins/7 buses= around 17 mins.

 

but the answer is 20.

 

why is that so?

should be 120/6...

 

cause the 1st bus and the 2nd bus is counted as 1 interval.... and so on... you will only get 6 intervals... :)

look at it this way

 

Bus 1 - 8:30am

Bus 2 - 8:50am

Bus 3 - 9:10am

Bus 4 - 9:30am

Bus 5 - 9:50am

Bus 6 - 10:10am

Bus 7 - 10:30am

Just use a smaller bus count.

Take 3 buses.

First at 830am.

Third at 1030am.

There will be two parts in the period.

 

Take four buses.

There will be three equal parts.

 

And so on.....

7 buses....there will be 6 equal parts.
