Hi guys,

Just wanna check if anyone had faced such a similar problem before.

My A/C is set to recycle mode, but i still can smell smells from outside, esp when travelling behind those 2stroke bikes. I am driving a 2006 AT sunny. Thanks in advanced.

Sometimes the flap that controls the recirculation mode cannot close properly (eg. blocked by debris) resulting in a gap which outside still can come in.

Learn from air con mech that most modern cars are designed not to close fully for safety reason.

But if it really bothers you, go to any air con mech and they can seal it for you..

Do take into consideration that it will be dangerous as carbon monoxide is odourless- poisoning.

There is usually a vent hole (to the outside) which is not closed completely.

On my getz, if the cable is seated properly, it will leave a small gap even when you pull it all the way to recycle.

That's not true.

It's usually a problem with the vent not closing completely.

A problem does not become a feature. :D

I think there are too many problems that workshop like to sweep away saying it's not a problem...it's like that one...just bcoz they are lazy to fix it or they can't fix it.

Actually if you can get access to aircon filter area, you can try to peek in to see the flap in action. Then you will know if it can close properly.

I believe the cars come without being air tight when you do that, so some odour/smell do enter the car.

old car is like that one..... after awhile the seal will not be as tight anymore and you can smell "outside air" even though you set to recirculate mode

I believe you are right. I do not keep the last few cars for many years. Sold after 1 to 2 years, so I do not smell any such odours.
